I got my old BearShare version 4.x.x installers, so i will test them out as well!I know they will containe spyware, but i know how to handel it since it's "save u now" it's easy to remove before it hits my pc...:D Have enny of you heard about BetterShare, or used it?

First comment: I hope the dev is aware of Gnutella protocols. I'm not sure BetterShare 5.3.0-2.0 is within them. But then I don't know the specifics of gnutella protocol. :D The concept of ... "... 999 simultaneous download streams for up to 50 files at the time" I'm sure et voilą would have been screaming at. :D (He used to test gnutella apps to see if they behaved properly on the network.) But I guess it's not too much of an upper. Just seems taking a 'lot' of available hosts in a greedy fashion. For those clients that can only download from 8 hosts per file, that's a lot of hosts that will not be available to them if there were a lot of BetterShare clients in use taking up everybody's upload slots. I will seek more information about this.

Second comment: Fantastic to see someone developing the original program from where it left off or just a little before, before the program sold out of course.

the beta can also be pushed way beyond 8 hosts per file...a limit is reached when your bandwidth is taken up, and I'll be for everyone but a true T+ line that will be around 50

Hahahahah, i know et voilą would have screaming at it...I guess he was not totally correct about GnucDNA either all the way as he think...;) Every thing in development have to have some failure or not working totally as it sould or expected! I did not either recomend it, but only wondering about it...I think it keep the specifics of gnutella protocol as it should...Many changes has be made during the time BearShare be sold out, so i don't know them all... You could ask Gregor K about that, he sould know that!

Does anybody have a copy of BetterShare?

Seems the original blog and the home website are now both dead.
Some listings of BetterShare via torrents but all are seedless. 'F' freeloaders! It seems torrents has been the distribution technique for a while by the developer. One such torrent added in April 2013 which is the latest release version is also seedless. The torrent is only 6 MB in size. Makes you wonder about people's mentality doesn't it. A dead torrent in less than 2 months. That's what freeloading does to torrents.

I'd be more than happy to help host the file.

Edit: Found this comment beside one of the torrents, dated 19/04/2012 (a previous release I guess):
"Changed and rebuilt engine - I decided to move to older 5.0.2.3 version ... BearShare 5.0.2 is way more secure than 5.3.0 - more info here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/open-discussion/53386-bearshare-has-been-sabotaged.html"

And from another torrent comment, sharing is disabled by default. I guess everyone on the network should follow that advice so all that is left to download is spam? lol :D
OK I am not expecting any reply to this post. I suspect I'd be long gone before that happened.

Edit: DOH! There's a download link on the forum :o http://www.gnutellaforums.com/open-d...-5-1-0b25.html
