User guide

As a new user of the Limeware community, I naturally want to look at the user guide.
When I tried to download it, the message said 'Error reading linearized hint data'.
Does anyone know what this means and how to help me download the guide?

You may be lacking the appropriate quicktime version or other necessary prerequisites to read it online.

Try downloading the zipped version instead: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/userguide.shtml
Make sure you have Adobe's Acrobat Reader to open it.

Also, remember that you are actually a Gnutella Network community member using LimeWire now...

There are many other 'clients' (programs) that also work within the Gnutella Network.

Not trying to be pedantic, honest !

 Thanks for your tip. I'm afraid it still doesn't work.
A message is coming up saying
'Adobe Reader couldn't open 'userguide [1] zip' because it's either not a supported file or because file has become corrupted
(eg sent as email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded').

Any more thoughts?

You need to unzip the file before you open it with Acrobat Reader. Acrobat Reader will only open .pdf files. Once the file is unzipped it will be a pdf (portable document format) file. So to unzip it you will need either Winzip, Winrar or Aladdin's StuffIt Expander for Windows. Google these & you'll find how to get the free versions.

Probably because you are downloading the installer. You can read the UserGuide online from the link I gave above. (Previously it was a downloadable manual & stored inside a zip file, but now you can simply read it online.)

Does anyone know. . .when Limewire is not open or running, is it still sucking off your bandwith?

If LW is closed then it shouldn't be using any of your bandwidth. Check in Task Manager to see whether LW's properly closed... if there's a LW process running - end the process.

You can change your shutdown options within LW's tools > options > system tray. If you choose 'shutdown after transfers', LW will stay open until all of your uploads & downloads in progress finish. If you choose 'shutdown immediately', LW will close straight away & any uploads or downloads can't continue. If you choose 'minimize to system tray' then LW stays running.
