If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. 10. Posts should have descriptive subjects. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit. 13. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. | Of the people having connection problems, how many have recently upgraded to AOL 9.0? There is a McAfee firewall or something in there that might be blocking incoming and outgoing connections. Many other connection problems have been traced to other firewalls. Thanks -greg |

| AOL 9.0 offers you the option using the firewall in 9.0 You can view your settings by clicking "view safety status" from the sign on screen. I do not use their optional firewall and Limewire is running fine alongside of AOL 9.0. I think I have had every beta version of AOL 9.0 installed over the past few months without any issues. I do use a router and Norton Internet Security without a hitch. I don't recommend you go without any firewall but I do think AOL's firewall (powered by McAfee) is better left off. AOL 9.0 is trying to do too many things without doing much of it well and often without the user having the option of choosing. |

| I appear to have solved my problem of discontinued connection by placing a short cut on the desk top to link with the ISP without using Internet Explorer. I open the connection to the ISP then open LimeWire having little else in the way of programs open. It works for me simple yes/dangerous l hope not but l do hope this simple solution works for you and others. Barynz |

| Perhaps l have misunderstood the discussion? I found l could after installing the programs necessary connect to LimeWire. The next time l started the computer it was dead. No amount of patients and clicking 'Connect' achieved anything. I altered firewall settings and went through all the suggested technicalities to no avail. If l uninstalled LimeWire and all associated programmes - repaired registries and loaded old settings (WinXP), l could re-install and gain access but again next time there was no connecting to LimeWire. I did this four times. I then went to "Network Connections" in the Control Panel Copied a ShortCut of the "Dial Up Connection" to the Desktop I now connect to the Internet through this Shortcut and once connected l open LimeWire.= Connection. If l have anyother internet programs open or, open any other programs ie Outlook then, l again have problems. I also 'Sign Out' and close down 'Windows Messenger'. Please accept my apologies should l have missed the point, l tried just about everything to make it work and thought l would share a find that somehow or other has helped me. I trust l have not interupted a "flow" here...................Regards Barynz |

| Barynz, I was not trying to be critical. You solved your problem and I wanted to be sure we understood what you did for the benefit of all. I better understand now how you are operating. I am glad your system is working. Norm |

| Spring I found that when I installed AOL 9.0s "port magic" it absolutely destroyed my internet speed. It dropped by over 30%. AOL includes a lot of "options" like "connectivity service", spyware protection", etc, etc. I would recommend you avoid them. I think they are well intentioned additions that do not fit todays needs for any one person. They try to be all things to all people and they fill the needs of no one. I hesitate to tell you to use the add/remove option to take the extras away bacause that may cause problems. If you have XP use system restore to roll back to a point before you installed 9.0. Then reinstall 9.0 and say "no" to the extras. Norm |

| Is it possible when upgrading to AOL 9.0 to reject some of the options, mentioned earlier, in an attempt to resolve a few problems? When i have updated in the past i do not recall there being any options and the installation of AOL 9.0 was completely automated. Maybe i missed something please let me know. |

| TS950SDX, No, AOL doesn't give you many options on installation so the extra junk will wind up on your system but I uninstalled Port Magic, AOL Coach, AOL Connectivity Services, AOL Spyware Protection, AOL Toolbar and AOL Dialer after I loaded 9.0 If you are running Windows you can also run MSCONFIG, go to the "Start Up" tab and stop a lot of AOL extras from running when you start your computer. | I downloaded Limewire yesterday-and was connected initially & now I cannot connect. I am running AOL 9.0. Please help. I am not really technically savvy & don't know how to diable the AOL firewall-I wasn't even aware I was running one. |
