Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning.

10. Posts should have descriptive subjects. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit.

13. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Other times other ports seem OK albeit downloads are slower than normal. From about midnight I can download with no problem, mornings can be hit and miss. Other people I know who use BT and LW have noticed similar things.

There's nothing official and BT have a dreadful customer service helpdesk that it's not worth the effort contacting them. But this problem has existed for a while now
I now know that BT are blocking p2p, I've come back to use Limewire for the first time in nearly a month and it's the same response - I can't connect.

I think it's time to add BT to the list of ISP's that are blocking Gnutella. Ah, well...

Try at different times of the day. Some ISP's in the UK are blocking or shaping p2p only during certain times of the day (peak periods.) UKBobboy01 knows of some UK ISP's that don't shape p2p bandwidth at all.

Also, try a different port to connect through. Try one between 49152 - 65535. A good one to try is 64049. ie: go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change both the connection & listening ports. Actually just try changing the listening port initially. If no good, change connection port also.

What am I to do?? Lime wire was working fine a couple days ago.
I have Verizon Fios and I'm having alot of problems with gnutella. I was using bearshare and the performance was getting worse and worse. Certain files never work or the download will start and run slowly and then die. I find that small files work more often. Also if I were to que up maybe 50 large files and then leave my computer on for a day or two eventually I get some of them but not all.

I thought perhaps the version of bearshare was outdated so I tried limewire (which I also know to be clean of spyware - bonus) but limewire doesn't work at all. I pick files with lots of sources and a four star quality but ti doesn't matter. They just sit there for every and either never connect or say more sources needed which it never finds. I never see any uploads going out either. Bearshare always worked with uploads disabled or if I enabled it a ton of files would upload just fine. If I turn the search monitor on in limewire I see incoming searchs and I can search files but that's all I can do.

I have a routed but my p2p computer is set as the DMZ.

What I don't understand is if all they're doing is blocking the port why I can't just change it and have it work. I've tried changing the ports in limewire but it doesn't work.

Does anyone have any ideas?

What are the defaults? I changed mine and want to go back (I didn't try changing them seperately) but I don't want to reset all my settings to default. Thanks.

i just talked to chater, after running those tests listed above. they said that they are not intentionally blocking any ports, to their knowledge. When i click on the first test, it says that everything is working fine. when i click on the test to check specific ports, it tells me that every port is closed. i tried probably 100 random port numbers, and they're all closed according to the test, so i wonder how many ports are availible to begin with, or if maybe the test doesn't work.. i don't know. I redownloaded bearshare (older version) and bearstart, and have been having no problems. shareaza is fine too.

If they work for you then good. Perhaps stay with them. But if you also want to keep going with LW, ... not sure about the port test you did. Some port tests simply show that your port is properly safeguarded. To check it properly you need to have the program open at the same time to see if the port has been opened for that program.

My thoughts with Charter is they are not blocking ports, but using a bandwidth shaper which detects the p2p program be it a specific one or all p2p programs & shape their bandwidth. Samples of p2p bandwidth shapers Sandvine,

And this is an interesting discussion of pro's & cons of isp shaping http://torrentfreak.com/traffic-shaping-good-or-bad/

Default hmm.. interesting

downloading from charter.. interesting. i can dl audio files, but not video files.. i tried for the heck of it to download several video files at random to test. the only one that worked was an explicit file. i cancelled it before it got far, but it did connect. anyone wondering if their isp is blocking ports, but cannot tell should try to DL several types and random titles. it'd be interesting to see if there are similar results with those having problems but not with a confirmed blocking isp

Then at present your problem is not a connection problem but an upload/download problem. Be wary of Fake files in search results

A magnet link video file, see if you can downld this one http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

Keep in mind Charter doesn't block all p2p users, just the heavy users. Which you'll see on page one under the Charter note link about their fair use policy.

the thing is, I'm not a high use user. I used to be but frankly, i ran out of stuff i wanted to DL. I would get on there, but nothing came to mind. I hadn't used any p2p software in about 6 months on any regular basis, and hadn't used it at all in over a month. I can DL the any of the files you suggested, but when i click on it, bearshare does the DL. i don't know how to make LW do it. BS was shut down at the time, but it opened up. maybe this has something to do, maybe not.. the LW icon on my taskbar used to bee green and yellow when i used to software a year ago. right now, it's grey in the middle??

strangly enough.. all p2p software i've tried is now working just fine.. out of nowhere. LW, BS, and shareaza all working on all files. my firewall was disabled the entire time.. i didn't do anything different. i just kept trying new searches and new DLs and all of the sudden, files that were searching for sources for over 2 days suddenly had them.. how odd!

I was sort of wondering (long after the fact)when that started happening to me.... Is it possible that you had just come to the end of a "monthly" max. data count? Say, your allowed "X" amount and then they pull back on the Raine's?
