Direct Connect I disabled the firewall in my computer settings but people still canīt connect to me or browse my folder? What do I do? |
Do you have Chat enabled? See How to Direct Connect, Browse & Chat Try setting up a file with a particular name that only you have & get them to search it. Make sure you have both upload & downld slots AND bandwidth available. |
Yeah, thatīs what I do but if I give the file a rare name it not always finds it. And It still annoys me that my friends canīt chat with me and browse me. Any other ideas how to fix it? |
Direct Connect can be difficult to achieve. Apparently it helps if both people have chat enabled (I don't know why) & this also helps for browsing. You & also your friend should do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image If it comes back False then it means there's a firewall somewhere blocking incoming. It could be a softw firewall on your computer or your modem/router. Remember the ip address that shows on the direct connect window is yours. So that's the number that your friend should type into their direct connect search. And of course you need theirs. |
Thatīs the problem, I can see his IP address but he doesnīt see mine. When I click on direct connect it says people canīt connect to me because I am behind a firewall...which is bullshit cause I disabled it for the whole system. The problem is on my end,but I dunno what it is.I do have the chat enabled and I can chat with others but it is always me who must start the chat conversation. I can browse them, but they can not browse me. What about that "Manual Port Forward"? Should I mark it? I have it on "Use UPnP" right now. |
What brand & model of modem/router do you have. Not all recognise UPnP technology. You might need to forward a port on your modem (ie: open a port ... port 6346.) That would also require manual port forward setting within LW. |
I tried this: WINDOWS XP INTERNET CONNECTION FIREWALL: Go to start -> Control Panel Open Network Connections. Right Click on the connection you use to connect to the network Choose Properties Go to the Advanced Tab If your firewalled is Enabled go to step 8 If you want to enable Windows XP firewall check the box (this will enable the "settings" button. If you are not interested in enabling your Windows XP firewall, hit cancel -- LimeWire will not be affected. Under Windows Firewall Options, Go to the Advanced Tab. Select internet connection used. (Local area network or the name of your connection) Hit the Setting Button. Hit the "Add..." button. In the description field add "Gnutella" Set the IP address to "127.0.0.1" Check the TCP Radio button Set the external and internal ports to 6346 Hit OK Repeat steps 9 to 13, except this time check the UDP radio button in step 12. Make sure the list of services has two items listed Gnutella, and make sure they are both checked. Click Ok But it didnīt help. What can I do? Can there be some internal firewall in my connection that I canīt disable? This si sooo annoying. |
Um is that your personal ip address you've listed? Your modem/router might have an internal firewall. What brand & model number modem-router do you have? |
No,it isnīt my IP address, thatīs the IP the LimeWire Faq tells me to put there. I donīt really know what brand my router is...where can I check it? I have a Cable Connection (Up to 2018 KB/sec). Anyway I also updated my Java, but it didnīt help. It must be something with the connection cause the one I had before( DSL)did let me direct connect, but this new one doesnīt let me. |
I am in Europe and I guess we have different brands here, the connection I have is Chello with download bandwidth about 220 KB/sec and upload bandwidth about 26 KB/sec. It might be a problem with my Anti-virus program, I have AVG 7.0 (donīt know if you know it). But I checked it and it doesnīt seem to have a personal firewall like the Norton Antirus does. I really donīt know how to make the direct connect work, I tried everything. |
