Check this thread for possible fixes: If LW 5 Will Not Connect

If nothing there helps, please post back with your system details as shown in that thread :)

Is this the first time you have used LimeWire? If you previously used LW before on same computer, generally best to do a clean install of LPE. ie: delete the older LW preferences folder; http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...tml#post183932, backing up your downloads.dat file in this process (Birdy's post #5.) LPE generally works better after such a clean install. :)

limewire pirate edition not connecting

i had a windows vista computer i was running limewire on. The mother board died and I brought a new computer. It runs windows 7. I downloaded the pirate edition of limewire from the file girls post that I had used on the last computer. limewire wouldnt connect. so i read through your forums and tried switching off my firewall (using windows firewall and malwarebyte for security). downloading the qnutella.net file and putting it into my limewire folder. changed the listening port to 65000. i also downloaded and ran file girl limewire fix program from another thread. uninstalled and reinstalled limewire and it still will not connect. this is the limits of my understanding of computers and programming.... I need help please..... Thanks

Delete your LW preferences folder as described above. Then try running LPE again. If still no good see below. Make sure LW is closed when you do these things.

Have you tried updating Java? Do a search for Java.exe file, when you find it, right-click it & choose Run As Administrator. Do the same for LPE's shortcut on desktop.

You should not need to disable your firewall, simply put LimeWire as an exception. Do the same for any other security software that may block. Just make sure there's only one firewall running. Two firewalls can cause unforeseen issues.

Also try the options in Birdy's link in post #2 above. Such things as disabling the Performance options. ;)

If still no success after trying all those things, then post back all your system details as requested at bottom of Birdy's link. Some other details may help us. :)

I see you are using 5.5.16. Unfortunately that version will most likely not work these days. Nothing above 5.5.10 except 5.6 will work now. But I also see you posted in the LimeWire Pirate Edition thread so obviously you realised this and tried to use LPE 5.6 instead.

(As far as I know, there were no actual improvements to LimeWire after 5.5.9 or 5.5.10. All later versions were related to their limeshop and auto-update technology. At least the LimeWire Pirate Edition (LPE) version which was based on the 5.6 beta has some additions the regular version did not have.)

Are you still having connection problems?

12 hours after last using, my LPE stopped connecting. I have two sets of share preferences & neither one connected. Neither did my LPE on Windows.
I opened Phex and it connected immediately to 4-6 peers. I copied part of the connection data (minus the phex notations) to the LPE connection file. LPE then connected immediately.
