The next Phex version will be 3.2.2

I just thought that it might be useful to post the release notes here, too. No use in excluding anyone who doesn't have access to the sourceforge project...

Release Notes
On the surface, this release mostly features noticeably improved networking code, due to which the thread usage for network connections dropped by about 40%.

One of the effects of this change is, that Phex can now handle 99 UP2UP connections with ease, as tested in two performance tests:

The second visible change are two new translations: Spanish and Mexican. (thanks go to LuisC-SM!)

Also we added a "nasty file filter", which should hide most (but surely not all) really nasty files, so you don't accidentally download things most people really don't want to see.

Not showing on the outside, abstractions from the i2p integration (i2phex branch) were ported to the main release, and even deeper below the surface, the code structure is being gradually adapted, to create a better Phex API, which allows other developers to easily use code from Phex as backend for their programs.

And as usually many Bugs where found and fixed.

As a sidenote, the startup wizard now prompts, if you want to subscribe to the Polar Skulk, a feed of free files served via Gnutella, and the served files get downloaded into a subdirectory of the download folder so they don't disturb regular downloads.

- FIXED: When browsing a host a blocked URN caused a connection abort.
- FIXED: Scanning of shared files crashed when a new directory was added.
- FIXED: Removed a possible deadlock situation during read/write lock handling.
- FIXED: Problems with available range set handling when download file size is
unknwon are solved.
- FIXED: A running file rescan throws errors when shared directories are
changed concurrently.
- FIXED: Download file preview was not possible if file beginning was not
verified yet.
- FIXED: File size unit in search quick filter resets to 'bytes' when toggling
through search tabs. (Bug: #1799473)
- FIXED: NPE on Mac OS X when displaying HTML text.
- FIXED: Turkish language file issue

There are 3 remarks I must make:

1. Previewing a file does not work in linux. I suppose the app must launch a player?

2. when selecting Menu Settings>Filtered Ports, displays a window which is not localized 'cause there is no available text for it (missing).

3. During the translation of the Phex, I found some text that was meant to set up the fonts in GUI. Is this going to be a feature for a future release?

Other than that, I'm very new to Phex and my critics would be very inaccurate due to my short knowledge of the app.

1: Do you have mplayer installed? IIRC Phex launches mplayer for me when I preview.

2: I now made the text inside the FilteredPorts dialog localizeable (though I wasn't able to get the text inside the buttons).
You can find it Lang.properties - the strings beginning with FilteredPorts_

3: Didn't know that... seems Gregor did some things there I didn't see (I'm sure there are quite a few of them ).

But especially since you're new to Phex, your critics are very welcome, because you didn't yet get used to the current state, so you can see it less biased.

I've been using Phex for 5 years, now, and I'm so used to having it behave as it does, that I don't see weaknesses anymore.

So, if you see anything that bugs you, please submit a bug report!

Ok, I'' see what I can do to get it done fast as hell
Well, I really hope this is a future feature. All java apps that I've ever used, lack of this feature and the reason why I never used Limewire/Frostwire was because the text is unreadable in my 1680x1050 monitor. I have always used gtk-gnutella (since long time ago) but after I found Phex, I really love the time to DL files and the GUI.
Even when text is small, I can read it =).

Other than the 2 comments above, Nothing really bugs about Phex =)....hmmm except for the fact that I don't get an icon on the system tray when closing it... but I believe this is some gtk integration problem,... considering the mature of Phex, I believe this will be a future feature for us gnome linux users.

PS. Too bad I ain't no coder... There are hundreds of things I'd like to be involved in linux but I ain't got keine scripting knowledge... maybe a little shell scripting but that only helps me to sort some things around my everyday pc usage.

EDIT: By "considering the mature of Phex" I never meant to say that Phex is a matureness application, on the contrary. I more or less meant to say YOUNG ;=) ...
EDIT2: I've installed Phex on a M$WinXP . The integration is just perfect everything works as it should.. too bad I don't use it (joke.. I love linux)

There was an idea to integrate a java library which would take care of the system tray (I don't have it in KDE either).

And I can't really code that much Java either - I mostly do an advanced form of copy and paste...

But free projects don't only need coders (even though more coders is almost always good), and so I can contribute and do something useful, too

Frostwire is also a Java GPL OS project...
Why not borrowing a little code ? ;=) (After all, it's also a matter of copying and paste )
They have fully systray integration...

In your first post you talk about 3.4 and the second one you state 3.2.2

The correct number is 3.2.2 (because Gregor correctly commented, that this is more a minor release).
