Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

I am pretty confident that you can download video content however, I think the problem is two-fold 1) it depends on the host you are trying to download from. 2) it depends on WHAT movies you are trying to download. If it is a copyrighted work chances are is being hosted by a company used by the industry MPAA to flood the network with bogus files OR if they are real you won't be able to download them because of the way they've configured the client. This has been discussed in previous posts.

To test this,

Right now there are a significant number of people hosting content that has been produced by me on the gnutella network. you can use any of the following search queries to pull up listings for the content:

cbt mpg
cbt avi
cbt wmv

You should try to download one of the files. If you can then you can download videos / movies

Problem solved.

hope this helps.

Default Thanks to the contributors

Hello to everyone,

I'm a new user to LimeWire so I've spent the last few hours reading over these threads trying to solve some of my problems. I must say that the information that has been provided both directly and indirectly is simply FANTASTIC!!

David91: I don't think that you anticipated that the things you stated back on the 25th of May of 2003 would come to any great use but the web browser link you gave was terrific and I was able to balance things out in my file sharing.

NoKaOi: Mahalo and aloha, Thanks for posting your issues I learned so much from you and David91.

Joff: You're one of the few who actually will "read directions" first before proceeding so in my books that puts you in the "wise" category not the "ignorant" category. Good on you!!

I want to thank each individual for posting their thoughts here. Myself being a "newbie" I had no idea that I was actually hindering results for other users. Now I leave my connection on 24/7. Because of the various statements that have been posted I have now become committed as a registered user of LimeWire to provide the best upload source I can. And if I may use your statement 'stupididiot69er' "You get what you give (this goes for downloading too)" and may I add to that "uploading"--it's a two way street.

BTW--Thanks Lee for the hard work you have put into answering the problems that have arisen and maintaining patience.

WR

Post No Thank you

No, thank you White Raven. It's refreshing to know that there are still some some users who will take the time to actually read through the threads before posting. In fact it is even more rare that after doing so someone would drop a line to thank those that participated.

For that, I think that you deserve a big thanks and good luck.

Default ip address

K, i set up my port forwarding, did everything with my Windows firewall and everything else everyone suggested. I'm still lucky to get 2KB/s on downloads and about the same upload rate. I'm working off a T1 at school and usually can get about 350-400 KB/s (I'm no noob, I know the dif. between bits/bites). My sh*t is fast. I'm at school and the guy next door to me gets 60-70 KB/s downstream through his gnutella p2p program. I get excited when i break 5. Someone please help me out, I'm using Limewire 4.2.6 on XP Pro SP2 (It came pre-installed, f'n Dell). Couldn't find anything describing putting my ip address in LW, I'm far from an expert on that topic and I didnt know if changing my LAN settings would do the trick. Someone hook me up, I've been waiting a good 3 weeks to see Boondock Saints.

Thanks,
C

Post Speed Issues

According to everything you mentioned the only thing that sticks out to me is that if you have a T1 i.e. 1.544Mbps and your buddy is getting 480-560Kbps throughput which means he's using 31-36% of the available bandwidth. You didn't say how many people share that T1? Finally, you should try downloading any file that has lots of sources. Perhaps a file smaller than 50MB to see what type of performance you get. Also can you download any faster using the web?

I don't think it's a limewire problem.

Do you know what client it is that your neighbour is using ?
It is not against the 'rules' here for you to mention a 'competitor client' if such is the case.

If he is also using LimeWire then there is the possibility that the problem is with your machine or installation...
If he is using another client, then that opens other arguments...

And, LeeWare has a very basic question re: download performance other than via the Gnutella Network...

-----
Hey ! Hi LeeWare... Long time no talkee !
I bet you meant 'lots' of sources instead of 'lost'

Post Corrections Made

That's exactly what I meant. Anyway, I made the corrections. Even though I haven't posted anything in a while. I still try to keep up on what's going on here. For a while now people have been contacting me directly with questions.

Hey, it's just three of us on the T1 so it shouldn't be a problem if one guy is using about a third of the bandwith right? The guy next door uses Limewire too and loves to rub his d/l speeds in my face just to be a dick lol. I have reinstalled Limewire about 5 times and I have the latest version installed. I'm on an administrative server at school, but we're in overflow housing so it's just a few guys after the staff leaves for the day around 4. It doesnt matter if i have a file with 40 or 400 sources, I get "waiting for busy host", "awaiting sources" or d/l's up to 5k, but most frequently 0. I'm on a Dell Dimension 4700 using an Intel Pro/100 VE Network Adapter to connect. My internet and email are really fast, but I've seen limewire break double digits in d/l speed 3 times in the last 2 months. I do have NAT, but I have no idea what to do about it.

You could try Force IP for a start: Force IP instructions & sample image
I presume you can't get access to your modem/routing equipment? Do you know the brand names & model numbers?
Have you configured your firewalls to allow both LW & Java full access: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

"Awaiting Sources" is a result of using the Resume function. It is much more efficient & healthy to manually search for fresh/new sources. If you use Resume on most of your incomplete files (if you have many) it will result in your files queueing for 'much', much longer than normal.

Some hints on optimising LW: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities.

Yeah I did that already. It's the same port that I had to allow through my firewall right? Am I supposed to set the IP to 127.0.0.1 or what my actual ip is? or the ip of my firewall?
