These volunteers keep the board organized and moving. Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity) Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum.  File Corrupt Every time I download a file, it progresses towards the end, and when it hits 100% it simply says "file corrupted". I went back in this forum and did a little bit of reading and found nothing I have not already done. I have opened my ports in my firewall and router and I have a steady connection to the internet. What is wrong? Can anybody help me?  |

| As a first suggestion... and it is based on a possibly over large assumption on my part... Try DownLoading a file that is NOT current and popular... And, try this with a file that has many sources... The thing is that you may be D/Ling the same sort of material that could be 'interfered with'... And, as usual, we need more info from you about your system !

| I should think above, below or on the side of the modem it will have its model number. Your Linksys modem will have a number similar to one of these examples: BEFDSR41W, BEFSR11, BEFSRU31, BEFSR41 V1 & V2, BEFSR41 V3, V4 & V5, BEFSR41-CA, BEFSX41-CA, BEFVP41 V1 & V2, BEFVP41-CA, BEFW11P1, BEFW11S4 v2, v3, & v3.2, BEFW11S4-CA V2 & V4, WRT51AB, WRT54G v1.1, v2 & CA, WRV54G-CA The reason I'm asking is that some & particularly Linksys modems tend to have internal firewalls. If you can tell us the model no. then hopefully we can find instructions for that particular model which will allow LW full access both in & outwards. |

| firewall problems hallelujah !!! the reason why all my downloads came with " corrupt file" posting is my firewall!!! i go by sygate pro and even when setting the advanced configuration for LW no download works; when i simply turned off the firewall, all the downloads miraculously work; the only ( major)problem to solve is the milion dollar question: keep my downloads working perfectly at tyhe cost of being open to the wide world ??? when i come up with the answer i post it, now i´m to happy to be able to download. tomas  |

| Congratulations, well done for disovering your firewall was the problem. You're right, there's no need to go unprotected. You should have an active firewall. OTHER FIREWALLS: Please allow both TCP and UDP connections for optimal performance: Did you check the instructions for Sygate: http://smb.sygate.com/support/docume...figuration.htm LW Uses Port 6346 Quote: Trusted Ports 7. Enter the ports or port range(s), or select the protocol from the drop-down TCP and UDP lists that can be utilized for this application. Only these ports will be used for this application. After LW has been on for at least 15 mins do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image And is the answer True/False? It needs to be true. |

| after coupla days of try, retry... no go with the sygate pro firewall; all advanced setups and even "allow" status of LW in firewall worthless no downloads just corrupt files; downloads working only when the firewall is opted "allow all" which is literally opened fw; the test run with "false" value in defined field; tested which apps are running on fw, funny thing is that besides LW(which even if allowed no go) no java related apps are running - don´t understand why OK when "allow all" and no go with allowed LW; nevertheless, keep on trying... tomas P.S.: HAPPY NEW YEAR 2005  |

| tompa94501 Which Operating Ststem are you using? If it's Win XP then XP also has its own firewall. And if XP do you have SP2? SP2 reduces the no. of simultaneous connections. Can you tell us your Connection type, & Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Some modems & routers have their own firewalls which generally use NAT. NAT reduces the ports available for incoming. Though this shouldn't affect your dwnlds I believe sometimes it can on some device set-ups. |

| sure, here we go: connection: adsl modem: alcatel speedtouch 510 i net adapter: intel 21040 PCI based ethernet adapter but i do not think the trouble lies in hardware, cause with exactly the same config, same provider i was able to download even from behind the fw till appr. half of november 04; the truth is that i experienced always more and more corrupted files, which ended in total inability to download from behind the fw in the end of november 04; btw the fw was not updated in critical period, the connection hardware didn´t change neither; anyway, i appreciate your effort very much, thanks. tomas |

| tompa94501 Perhaps you're right. But you are using firewall devices which depending on brand/model may affect things. 1. For common firewalls such as XP's firewall instructions to allow both LW & Java full access can be found here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml with more links at bottom of page. 2. Your modem & possibly your net adapter use NAT firewalls. This blocks a high no. of ports. You can open one just to allow LW full (instead of partial access.) This process is known as port forwarding. And you will need to open Port 6346 b/c that's what LW uses. I'm not sure which variation of model applies to you so you can decide for yourself. Port Forwarding instructions for the Alcatel SpeedTouch 510 version 4.0 OR Speedtouch 510 v4.2 OR SpeedTouch 510 Alt Note you will need to set up a static ip for it to work. A link is provided on 1st line of that page. 3. Guides for the Intel Wireless Gateway This is not your model no. but the principal will be the same. 4. | all done ( e.g. portforwarding, NAT setting, IP forcing, 6346 port definition...) even the test report from bug section comes with "TRUE"; nevertheless the downloads go only if the sygate pro is in "allow all", the uploads are going through the firewall when in "normal" status; i´m really getting desperate, during my last downloading session with opened fw i´ve got myself a couple of nice trojans nad spyware. tomas |
