These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. 10. Posts should have descriptive subjects. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit. 13. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. | When I download a song from LW I try to play it in the LW player and in Real player which is my default player. The song that has been downloaded fron LW will not play on either player but other songs that I have downloaded from various places will play in Real Player so therefore I know that there is not a problem with the default player. I have also checked in the options for LW to make LW the default so that is not the problem either. I have also checked to be sure that Real Player ext.'s are all ticked off and they are. Can anyone provide me with any further suggestions!!!! Pleaze!!!! I'm losing it!!!!! |

I am using Windows 98. Yes I already tried to enqueue the song and in the right hand corner beside the player where it says Lime Wire Media Player it turns blue and the song name goes through it yet i can still hear nothing. I have checked the continous play also and that is fine. The file type is mp3. Help!!!!!

Fabion: thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I still haven't got it working yet so to anyone who may have any other suggestions it sure would be appreciated. Could it possibly be because i am running under windows 98 that this problem is occuring?

Yes there are corrupt files out there filled with silence. More about that in a moment. Just as a last check, if you want to, is to download QCD which will play all audio formats (built-in codecs) & is free. Get it here: http://www.quinnware.com/ As far as corrupt files go, see: T3 Spammers & corrupt files & make a note about file size V's bit-rate (quality)!!! A couple of people have suggested fixes to those so called corrupt files. There's apparently at least 2 utility apps out there that can fix many. I don't know about all. See these: 1. video-fixer (fixes mp3's also) & 2. MP3RepairTool Tell us how well they work!?

Lord of the Rings: Thank You for your reply. I have downloaded the Quintessential Player and when I attempted to play the file that was downloaded from LM it gave me a message that went like this: MMSYSTEM032 The specified format cannot be translated or supported. Use the Capabilities function to view supported formats. So what I am attempting to do is to download a different song that is under a Cable/DSL subscriber and see if that works. I'm thinking maybe I tried previously to download from a T1 and this could possibly be the issue. If not I will proceed further with the other info you recommened and keep you posted. Thanks Again!! Much appreciated.

For music T1 is hgenerally ok. It's some of the T3 sources that tend to be the problem. I emphasise the 'some' b/c not all T3 sources are loaded up with corrupt files. The others can be very valuable with regards to files available & downld speeds. But when it comes to new popular chart busting songs, then just be wary of T3 sources.
| ||||
The problem is only that one audio file isn't it? If so then I'd suggest it's probably corrupt. Like those others mentioned earlier that come from 'some'T3 sources. How long does it run for? If it runs for 20 or 30 mins then you can try an mp3 fixer mentioned earlier or just dump it. I was almost going to suggest to you to downld another playback plugin. But QCD will play many, many formats incl. video.

I have just started using LimeWire. I have downloaded 3 or 4 different files with an "80 bitrate". None of them will produce sound. I have tried three different players: Windows Media, MusicMatch and Creative. All three show that the file is playing - but no sound is produced. Does anyone have any suggestions for correcting this situation. Thanks

I did look at the links. There is no mention of of consistent problems with "80 bitrate" files. Every 80 bitrate file I have downloaded will not produce a sound. I would think there would be some type of setting to correct this condition.
