how do i upload stuff????

Uploading files helps with search results! Which is why sharing files is important. ;)

1. (a) Create a folder, put the files you want to share inside, then go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Sharing & press the Add button, then direct it to where this new folder is & select it. Then press Apply button.

__ (b) See these example images: 1. Adding Folders to share via Tools>Opions>Sharing (applies to LW 4), & also 2. Adding folders to share from LW Library (this 2nd option is now obsolete)
__ (c) How to share folders in LimWire version 5: Adding files/folders to share with LW 5

2. Another helpful tip to help your files be shared & found in searches: seems like nobody is downloading my music; giving your files good descriptions or tags, be they audio, video, image, documents or program type files. :)

3. Enable Chat so people can Browse your files: Why should I have Chat enabled if I have no desire to chat? It is to do with Sharing files! With Chat enabled, it helps greatly with sharing even if chat is not desired

Mac OSX preference options is normal location for most OSX programs, keyboard shortcut is Command-Comma ,

I just tried those - nothing happens when i specify folders to share, also .. under the "file menu" on mine there is no option to add folder to share, only connect & disconnect - perhaps because i'm only using the free version.

I deleted the preference folders as you said, but when I went to the add/remove programs menu & highlighted Limewire, it only gave me the button to remove it, no option to change it or repair it, so I couldn't go ahead with that. I really dont know what else to do - nothing I try is working :( I'm wondering if the basic free version that I have perhaps doesn't work properly.

Having spent the last 5 hours trying to get it to share my files - I've decided to just remove the program & not bother using it... it should not be this impossible to get it to work. I miss my winmx :( Thanks for your help, I appreciate that you tried, but I give up with Limewire!!

do this by going to the LW Library window, menu bar, File>Add folder to share.
In other words you need to go to Library window 1st, then go to File menu. But if you don't have this option then I can only guess you have an old version. You should always specify which version of LW you're using to help us help you. After you add a folder, press apply button. Also go back to Library window & press Refresh. :)

I am using the latest version, that I just downloaded from the website, today - 4.9.30, & Java version 1.5.0_03 ( I made sure I went to where it said "latest version". Today is the first time I have ever tried to use Limewire & so far, its proving impossible).

I did click on the library tab first, then clicked file - but it only gave me the options : connect, disconnect, close. Is there anyone out there, that is using the basic free version like me, not the pro version, who can tell me why when I am specifying folders to share, that it isn't working? From everything I have read & have been told so far, I'm doing what I have been told & it SHOULD be working, but it isn't, obviously its no good if the prgram won't share my files with anyone. :(

This is what I clicked:

Library tab> shared files> configure> In the pop up box, add> I selected my removable E drive (since that's where all my shared files are)> apply> ok> Library> refresh button. It still listed all my files red. I also tried the following route: Library> right-click on shared files> share new folder> selected my E drive> apply> ok> Library> refresh button. That didn't work either... and nothing else that has been suggested works either. I also tried going through the Tools>options menus but no joy there either. If I'm having this much trouble with the free version I'm highly reluctant to pay for the pro version, if that just does the same thing to me I will have wasted money. Please help me solve this.. its really annoying now.

I didn't realise this hadn't been answered or thought you'd realise eventually. The files are red at 1st because LW is still accounting for the newly added files. Depending on how many new share files you add, this might take a minute or 2, or it might take much longer. If you wait patiently, you will notice they will change colour to black. If not, then press the refresh button. That will force LW to re-account for the files being shared. During this time, you'll also notice the shared files number gradually increase at the bottom left side of the window. The 1st no. means the total added at that moment & the 2nd no. is the overall files LW has found being shared.

Thank you for your help! It is now working properly :D I was unaware Lime Wire did not instantly list the files like WinMx did. It did indeed take a while - I waited about 30 mins & it still hadn't listed the files properly... so I went to bed, when I got up in the morning, there they all were, shared properly! Who Knew!!

Thanks again for letting me know about this quirk, it is greatly appreciated :D

share folder

hi there, new here (like you haven't heard that one before)... i just want to confirm; If i have under "Options", "Sharing" c:/documents and settings/owner/shared, does this mean people will only have access to all info in the folder called "shared"? No-one will be able to access any sub-folders in the "owner" folder except for the sub-folder called "shared"? Have been searching to confirm this and i'm a bit useless at speed reading. I'm just reluctant to allow others access, if it means that i have set-up lime-wire to allow people to access all information on the hard-drive.
Also, if you check "library", people have only access to what is listed here?
Thanks

I know where my shared folder is... How do I take a new DVD and get the contents into it?

muhctekdano December 30th, 2006 11:48 AM

djymz - only the files in that subfolder will be accessible by others

steve - that's a complicated question!

You probably don't want to simply rip a DVD into your shared folder (ripping and decrypting is another topic - are you familiar with this?)

The most common video file types that people share are .mpg and .avi because they are compressed enough as to be relatively quick to download

If you want to share your DVDs, you should probably convert to one of these formats...check out this website (especially the guides): http://afterdawn.com

Good Luck :xeri_ok1ani:

P.S. Converting video formats can be time consuming :yikes: and frustrating :lmao: until you learn how to do it...don't expect to be a pro right away!
