Really slow downloads but fast internet connection

I have ran limewire on three different internet connections now and for some reason it is really slow with this connection. The first internet connection i had on this computer was telus ADSL and I could simultaniously download 10 songs at 20-40 Kbs easily. My second connection was telus 56k dialup and i could download 4 songs at 2-7 Kbs fairly easily. My new connection is personna cable rocket and is the fastest connection i have ran on my computer yet (for everything except for dnlding) and for some reason it downloads slower than my dialup connection did. I have already set up my firewall to allow limewire to bypass it and applied the TCPIP.sys patch. I even bought limewire pro to see if it downloads faster. Also I have a friend who has cable rocket too and their limewire downloads really fast, the only difference is that I am running an RCA cable modem and they are running a linksys. So I was just wondering a new modem would fix this problem or if there is something else I should try.

Try the .limewire fix. I do not think it is the RCA cable modem I am using on (RCA Digital Cable Modem) and am having no problem. If the .limewire fix doesn't work you can try resetting the modem by unplugging the modem for 30 sec then plug it back in. On the back of the modem there should be a reset button, push it in for 15 sec after you plug it back in. It will reset it to the default settings if something got messed up somehow. The Link below has the .limewire fix in it.

I tried it but it didnt work

I have just finished trying both of your suggestions and they didn't work at all. I am still downloading at 1 Kb/s (when I'm lucky) so I think I either need to go back to ADSL or get a new modem.

Do you see a wall in front of the globe in Limewire ?

Also how does Limewire connect ? (Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewall Config)

Have you tried portforwarding a port ?

Kyle-r August 19th, 2006 07:30 PM

As I already said, I have bipassed my firewall. And yes my limewire does connect. But thanks for the suggestions anyway.

Looks like it is set up right, and as you said no firewall issue. I would normally say that your ISP has probably started using trafficshaping but you allready mentioned that your friend has the same service.

There are two possibilities that still come to mind regarding your ISP

1. You have a quota on amount of data you get to download/upload during each month and you have exceted that amount this month. This can either be checked by calling up your ISP and asking or you can wait until the start of next month to see if you can download again.

2. They started using portblocking. This can be checked by changing your port (try one between 50.000 and 60.000)

hello everyone. im having the exact same problem that Kyle-r is having and i tryed everything. plus my cable modem provider told me that there is no restrictions on downloads. so i dont know what to do. if anyone can offer some help, it would be greatly apreciated.

HawkStarwind August 25th, 2006 06:54 PM
