You can only download as fast as the sources will let you. So if you aren't getting very fast speeds, that's probably as fast as is available from those souces. Otherwise search for more sources. Remember sources include people who are from all different types of connections including dial up. Also, most will be sharing their upload bandwidth amongst many users, so you will only get a share. Also, since much of the downloading happening is via partial file sharing (where people are sharing what they have downloaded at that time but are still themselves downloading the file), so there will be little hops in speed as you download each small packet segment of file. Remember you are downloading from other people, not a website.

Quite a good test is from the magnet site. Try one of their files & see how it goes: + MagnetMix.com +: The Source for Good Content

You didn't mention how fast people are uploading from you at. I find I upload at faster speeds then I download lol

Uploads help you connect to more people & help with searches. There's obviously also people with similar tastes as yours so you can browse them if you are able to.

Also, this is a peer to peer network, people sharing with each other. If nobody shared, you'd have nothing to download. Unless you like the term "leech".

That will be as a result of the Junk filter. The results show for a moment then disappear. If you wish to see what's been filtered out, you can list them at the bottom of the search results page. ie: go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Filters>Junk & you can set it to show junk files at bottom or in place.

I've heard of that happening before. I think it has to do with popup windows allowed in your browser. You will need to add both the forum & Bitzi site to those allowed by your browser. Go to your browser preferences/options & check for allowable popups. Oh actually the forum link links to the LW forum first, http://www.limewire.org/forum/ so that would need to be added to the safe list.

Unhappy Sloooooooooooooow...?

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help me...?

I've used Limewire on my computer before and never had a problem with it.

But it just seems to be taking ages to download anything, when I've used it before a song would take a few minutes...now its like half hour to an hour!

Just wondered if anyone had any help they could give me in solving this...?

Thanks

Try downloading a file from here & see what speeds you get.
+ MagnetMix.com +: The Source for Good Content

Do a speed test & tell us the results.

Be aware that most ISP's in UK now shape p2p bandwidth either 24 hrs a day or only during peak hours, or may apply it to specific users they detect using p2p programs & a lot of bandwidth.

What speeds did you get when you downloaded a file from magnetmix?

It may be as LOTR said, BT's shaping your bandwidth.

You could try deleting LW's preferences folder (points 2 & 3 below). LW must be properly closed. After deleting the prefs folder, you'll have to go back through tools > options & reset everything to the way you like it.
Fixes for LimeWire

Or try changing ports. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to 64049 > Apply > ok.
Any port forwarded within a router will also have to change

Have a look through the thread below for tips to optimise LW’s performance.
A few things to consider while configuring Limewire for optimal performance...
