Unhappy BearFlix has detected a problem

I've used the free BearFlix for a long time and didn't have problems. Today I downloaded and installed BearFlixPro.

But as soon as I start it and want to fill out my order I get the message:

"bearflix.exe has detected a problem and must shut down"

I already installed it several time. I have cleaned up my registry with TuneUp.

Any other suggestions.

I don't want to completely deinstall bearflix, because I don't want to loose my temporary files and want to continue them.

I have WindowsXP, SP2, Kaspersky Internet Security.

Thank you!

Try the version in this thread: Sticky: BearShare has been sabotaged.
It might still be able to pick up those downloads where the crippled
version left off, assuming the file format hasn't been altered. As an
added benefit, this one is not limited in what types or sizes of files
you can download.

HI Aaron,
thanks that was fast.

Well I also have bearshare , but I choose also bearflix, because I only wanted to download videos and pix. And of all what I read, for that purpose bearflix is better?

I just installed the new BearShare 6.2.0 but it only allows downloads up till 50 MB per file. And it doesn't find as many search results as bearflix.

Greetings from Austria,

Christoph

You might as well use BearShare because BearFlix is just a weakened
version that offers no enhanced performance. In fact, the beta has
the unique ability to be manually switched to ultrapeer mode, which
will give your searches maximum potential.

Aaron thanks for your help.

Are you talking about the 5.1.0 beta25 version?

Hey Aaron,
it worked. Now I need to transfer my searches manually from before (bearflix) and try them in this beta version.

This is just what I wanted!!! Thanks!

How will I be manually switched to ultrapeer mode now?

It's in Setup/Service. Make sure the fourth status light is green,
which means not firewalled, for best performance.

To get the downloads into it, go to Setup/Downloads and put the old
temp folder in the incomplete downloads spot, then restart it.

Sorry fo taking so much of your time, but I'm not that experienced. And english ist not my mothertongue.

The fourth light is always yellow.

Do you mean to put the old temp folder (bearflix) into the new (beta) temp folder, or just the content of the old?

In Setup/Downloads, put the location of that temp folder in the line
for incomplete downloads. It's best not to move or copy the actual
folder or files anywhere else once the downloads have started. You
are just telling BearShare where they are.

Turning that fourth light green is next. Do you have a firewall program,
or anything to do with security? Describe all of your protection programs
and we can find easy instructions. Find the names and numbers of your
modem or router too because most of them can be controlled from your
web browser too.

Before you wrote that reply I already copied the temp files in the new folder. I did it with one set of files (dat, bak,...) and restarted bearshare to see if it works and it worked and I did it with the rest and it worked too.

Yes, I have Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0.0.124
My Modem is Tilgin AB Vood 452w_A

Do you need any other information?

It's good to see it worked by just copying the files. Sometimes they
will still be downloaded into the old folder if it still exists because
the filenames are stored in the data files. If funny things start
happening like downloads going missing or losing data whenever
you stop and restart, move everything back to the old place and put
that location in the settings.

Instructions for Kaspersky are here: Product Documentation
You need to set it up to allow incoming connections on your BearShare
port, which is usually 6346. See Setup/Connection to see which one
you are using.

For the modem: Port Forwarding for the Tilgin Vood 452w

Once you get a green light you can put it in ultrapeer mode and you
will get up to 70 host connections instead of 2. That's when your
searches will really take off.

Thanks again Aaron for your help!

I did everything you told me to do. Also in Kaspersky.

But still the light is yellow.

Here is the info:

TCP Firewalled (for 59m)
UDP Solicited NonFirewalled (for 58m)
UDP/IP: 91.130.#.#:6348

What else can I do?

Try a high number, between 60,000 and 65,535.

What is your internal IP address? The one you used in the
modem to indicate your PC. It should be something like
192.168.1.2. Check in your TCP protocol settings what it is
and make it permanent so your modem rules will always be
pointing in the right direction.
==> How to set up a static IP address on a Windows XP computer <==

Also, make another rule in the modem, all the same
settings but for UDP instead of TCP. BearShare can use
both at the same time.

We should check what you did in Kaspersky too. Did you
add BearShare to the Trusted Zone? (6.9.2 Page 80) Turn
on all the "Do not" rules except "Do not scan opened files".

Have you done anything in "12.1.1.2.1. Creating rules
manually" (Page 151) yet? You probably have to make a
couple of rules in there too, one for TCP and another for UDP.

Kaspersky looks pretty complicated for this stuff, but at
least you'll only have to do it once.

I did all the Kaspersky stuff. (zone, rules manually TCP/UDP) I have TCP and UDP rules in the modem.

My static IP is 192.168.1.136

The light is still constant yellow.

TCP Firewalled (for 59m)
UDP Solicited NonFirewalled (for 58m)
UDP/IP: 91.128.xxx.xxx:6348

What do you mean with:

In the Connections tab of BearShare's setup, you can set any port
you want. If you try a high number chosen at random it might work
a little better from where you are.

That's an interesting static number. Is it set manually or are you
still letting it work automatically? That's the IP address your
modem should have in the forwarding rules.
