Most linux users will have no problems finding their preferences folder. But if you are a novice like me then these instructions might help a little.
This advice and examples apply to ubuntu but are probably transferable to other linux systems. LimeWire and FrostWire preferences locations are equivalent except by name.

The LimeWire preferences location is:
~/.limewire

One way of locating the folder without using the terminal is via this technique:

1. How to Enable / View Hidden Files in Ubuntu 12.10 | Drew's How Tos or if this link loses life: When your file browser is in focus, moving your mouse to the top bar should unveil a menu. Click Edit, then Preferences. In File Management Preferences, select Show hidden and backup files. Then click the close button. You should now see any hidden files within your file browser.

Attachment 6357

2. Home directory in finder/file browser:

Attachment 6359

You will now see .limewire listed.

3. If you are deleting the preferences folder, first back-up the downloads.dat and possibly also the library.dat / library5.dat files depending on whether you are using LW 4 or 5. Then after running LW for a short while, close LW and return the files you backed up.

Hi,
I am working on Reputation and Trust Management in P2P networks and using PHEX for the purpose.

For reputation aggregation, I need to use some gossiping algorithms. And for that I want to push some information(say a random text information) from one node to other and read this text information on the other node too. This information will contain reputation values for different nodes as per the pushing node that it will be communicating/pushing to another node(its neighbor) to let him update his own reputation values for different nodes.

Can please someone help me on how can one do this? Which classes should I work with in the source code?
May be I can use GGEP extensions to add this information and pass it on during ping/pongs messages. Suggest me if I am thinking on right lines or not.
Or please suggest an alternative way which may be good to do this.

Thank You.

LimeStart installer, a 2 in one fix for Java 7 Shortcuts and Connection insurance

I...

Over a year ago I created a program for MacOSX users of LimeWire 5 called LimeStart. They use this to open LW with instead of opening LW directly.
I have created a program with the equivalent name and function for Windows users.

Function:
The Windows LimeStart function is mostly identical to the MacOSX version:
LimeStart updates the connection file's date to today's date then launches LimeWire, preventing LW from deleting the connection file if it has not been used for 30 or more days. LimeStart for Windows however has a secondary function, it is also used to start LimeWire without the launch problem with Java 7. LimeStart closes immediately (fraction of a second) after it has launched LimeWire.

Operation:
The Windows LimeStart I've designed is not clever but uses a roundabout method of achieving the same thing as the MacOSX version does. The fact that it works is the most important thing. It uses two files: LimeStart.exe which is installed into the LimeWire program folder. And an elementary LimeStart1.exe file which is installed into the LW preferences folder.

(If you ever feel a need to delete the LW preferences folder, you should first backup the LimeStart1.exe file, Downloads.dat and perhaps Library5.dat files also.)

When you open LimeStart, the LimeStart1.exe file will initially open (the batch file has been replaced with a silent exe file so there's no visual noise) which may stay open for between 0.1 seconds to a few seconds depending on speed of your computer and any slowing effects caused by your AV and/or any other active security softwares. Then LimeWire will open.
You will not actually see LimeStart as it does its work in the background.

(edit: I forgot to mention, LimeStart.exe and LimeStart1.exe should both probably be put into any security software exceptions lists.)

I have created a multi-LimeWire version installer for LimeStart so that it replaces the original shortcuts and also solves the Java 7 startup issue. It will be fine to use with Java 6 as you will want to open LimeStart and not LimeWire directly to safeguard your connection file. But definitely do not use LimeStart with LimeWire 4.
It is important to choose the appropriate version of LimeWire in the LimeStart installer so the equivalent Shortcuts are replaced.

Very Important: "If" you have previously installed the LW 5-Java or LPE-Java Shortcut fix, you will first need to uninstall it using the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel. The LW-Java Shortcuts listing will be underneath the LimeWire listing in the Add/Remove control panel. This MUST be done first before installing LimeStart.

Attachment 6337

Another note: If you ever wish to uninstall LW, you should first remove LimeStart via the Add/Remove control panel. Otherwise LimeWire will only be partially uninstalled.

Attachment 6339

One possible Side-effect: Unfortunately my very, very early LW-Java shortcut fixes late last year were even less clever and upon removal may even remove the LW.jar which would require reinstallation of LW. LimeStart would be unable to find the file to launch it. (But that may have been due to my earliest testing before release last year.)

When will it be available?
The LimeStart installer is now hosted at a few locations but on its own here, and can be found where the forum hosts the other LPE and LW5 versions. All LPE and LW 5 versions hosted via the forum are now packaged with the . LW 5 + LPE - LimeStart + Java Fix setup.

Tested on Windows XP with LPE, Windows 7 and 8 with LW 5.4.6 and LW-LightWeight.

I first encountered this problem in early 2010 whilst using LW 4.16. Even same issue with an alternative startup drive.
I found the same problem...

I first encountered this problem in early 2010 whilst using LW 4.16. Even same issue with an alternative startup drive.
I found the same problem with every LW 4 version, FrostWire 4 and the LW 4 clones such as MP3 Rocket.

Symptom:

ie: under the LimeWire menu on the apple toolbar, there was no longer any Preferences option.

The only way to access the preferences I found was by going to the Library window and choosing configure shares. This was a backdoor approach. (Perhaps due to sharing lots of files but I found the changes to settings did not always stick after a restart 100% of the time.)

An alternative fix:

Only a few weeks ago I discovered an alternative approach. Install any of the LW 4 skins and you will be able to access the preferences options via the approach Windows users do. ie: once you have changed to another skin, find the Tools menu on the actual LW program. Then choose options and there you have it.

Someone recently mentioned to me they had the same problem. So this should be a good fix for you. Besides, you have many skins to choose from if you use my recently compiled Skins installer with 100 skins options.

So IV had this epiphany of these sentences that don't quite make sense. "What is the topic of this sentence" surely the topic of this sentence is the topic of this sentence. You would think right? But what if I were to give this paragraph.

The words in this sentence can't quite possibly begin to explain what I'm trying to explain in this sentence. The words in this sentence keep reaching out to touch the topic of this sentence but can never quite grasp what it is that is being said in the sentence. What is this sentence? This sentence is the sentence i am speaking of. What is this sentence doing? This sentence is evolving. What is this sentence becoming? This sentence has become a paragraph. What is the topic of this sentence? The topic of this sentence must be the way the letters work together in groups to form words that are strung together like a necklace with the letters being the beads. But what are the beads made of?

I'm looking for the answer to the last question of that paragraph.
