Well, ok...

How could I resist? You want Phex so much it would be unfair to not do anything anymore. It seems I canīt just quit that easily.

So hereīs whatīs going on. My developers (praise them) are already discussing concepts to solve the queries issue for good. All in all this will result in a large overhaul of Phex. I will help them as good as I can and watch over the general direction of Phex. And should other clients start blocking Phex, Iīll probably even start coding myself again.

Until that you can still download and use Phex 0.5.2 which is pretty good for now (if you use the workarounds for the bugs).

Bye and thanks,
Konrad

PS: Donīt start bashing Vinnie that badly. I wouldnīt want to start a fight between the gnutella developers. We will find a solution, whatever it takes. And I surely wonīt add "bearshare-blocking"-support, just think about the users! We would start something that would lead to concurrent gnutella networks, a situation where we all just loose.

I recall reading in the GDF Vinnie making a discussion for doing just that, or at least something that would require such divisions to take place. I believe he said something about creating a test network for gnutella for experimental clients, but if they do this how do they keep these experimental clients from entering the real network? I would think they would block those clients, he may even want to build in special requirements so that their hosts will work with a start up gnutella client. Anyway that has a stronger potential to create a division in the gnutella network.

pointless

I remember the thread.

After thinking about the idea I concluded it is completely pointless. To test the complicated effects within a living gnutella network with tenthousands of hosts an isolated testing network will never grow big enough and to test purely technical issues everyone can build a small testing network easily within a LAN or even on a single machine.

Was vinnie the guy that installed spyware on my computer?

I really have a strong urge to beat up spyware people. So if I ever meet em in real life, since the odds that I would are low... I'd prolly jump them. Kinda like how laws used to work in the olden days, if the crime is light, but the possibility of catching the crook is low, then the punishment is big.

Spyware on more than one occasion brought my crappy computer to a stall that I had to reinstall ****ing everything and took me 3 days to do...

Note to people who don't like spyware- Don't buy creative labs products, and don't install any stock market programs on your computer. I'm not sure who was the genious that realized they would be untouchable by law by violating my computers internals, but they need to realize they'res psychopaths like me out there who don't respond well to direct intrusions to their lives.

Anyway, I'm off to poke around with Phex, see if I can implement the "Collection function." Basically if you 2x click a "collection", you get all works of art by a particular artist... Ie Mozart. I don't think Mozart has any copywrights to his works, hey I could be wrong, but you get my point... In my mind, I think whoever institutes the "collection leeching routine" will not only make their product superior to the others, but bring about a new era in file trading.
