WinMX-LimeWire, the same?

I've had WinMX and used it well for some time until recently when it stopped connecting, I then went to it;s website via google and paid for a download which turned out to be LimeWire, which is similar to what I had, but which seems to be a whole different company. Was I taken? The site I went to was www.mp3musicwebsite.com/winmx/winusgg/index.htm

You've been scammed. See Known Scam Sites & also see get your $$$ BACK!!! (music members) I think you'll find the version of LW you have is LW Basic which is FREE from the official LW site: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

However that is a new site that hasn't been reported before so I'll add it now. What they refer to as the 2005 version is what they also do with other p2p sharing programs. They're just scam versions & not the official downld sites.

Is This Win Mx??

If this is NOT WinMx, I'd also like to cancel. How do I go about doing it and getting a refund. I had WinMx for years. I lost it and downloaded this, thinking it was WinMx. Where do I go to cancel and get a refund, what page or address?? Please help..... Granpa Fred

You try to get a refund from the site that you paid at. Surely you have the address!

This might be bad news or good news I am not sure yet.

I read the reviews and the exact same thing happened to me. I didn't think too much of it but I do know that I paid something to register. Anybody else know what they paid. I wonder why Winmx stopped working all of a sudden. HMMM? May a federal government regualtion. Hey is this sight even legal? I mean since I paid for it? I wouldn't mind so much but I don't always get good clean downloads.

WinMX was shut down last month by the RIAA, unfortunately. I hope LimeWire is not next.

why was winmx shut down it was so much easier to use. i saw a site where you had to buy it now. almost two years ago i joined madeformusic.com i had to download limewire from them to download so i got it through my music website membership but limewire is sooooooooooooo complicated i would rather buy the winmx if i had to just to save me the headaches of this program.

It was shut down because the music industry took it to court saying it was being used to download music illegally.
