Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning.

10. Posts should have descriptive subjects. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit.

13. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Default Problem Connecting to Gnutella Network

I've come to realize that I am having a problem connecting to any part of the Gnutella network. I've tried Limewire, Frostfire, Phex, & Shareaza with neither of them connecting at all. I've tried every single help thread I've come upon here and still can't get anything to connect.

Limewire was previously working for me about a month ago. We moved, kept the same ISP, didn't change any of the router settings at all.

Firewall: Windows Firewall *Was allowing exceptions for all programs listed above **
Router: D-Link Dl524. *Has UPnP and I've already checked that it was enabled*
ISP: Alltel DSL

If there is something that I can try I would appreciate it but everything that has been listed here I have tried with no change in connection for either program listed above.

Thanks!

9. Who is your ISP provider? ( AOL/MSN/Comcast/Tiscal)
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.

If I remember correctly Alltel uses AT&T as it's backbone provider. AT&T is
in the habit of sneaking around and putting up temporary blocks on various
types of P2P, as well as helping the NSA eavesdrop on your phone. If that's
what's happening to you then the block should probably come down in a week
or two. In the meantime you could experiment with other types of P2P such
as BitTorrent and Edonkey, and get acquainted with Alltel's newsgroup servers
too. ;]

Or you might want to give the solution suggested by hughes in the thread below a try. At least one user said it worked.

Optimum OnLine uses a different type of blocking.
AT&T's hardware won't be fooled by merely changing ports.
Your only reliable option is to switch to another protocol entirely.

Hi AaronWalkhouse

Have you checked this out it isn't changing ports it is assigning a new IP address. It appears to work but I am not being blocked by my ISP so I do not know if it will do as they say. But I do know it changed my IP address.

AT&T blocks whole subnets, which means whole cities or counties at a time.
(Oh, and using a proxy is iffy at best due to the heavy traffic. Go ahead and
try but don't expect much throughput.)

Question, under international law isn't it a criminal offense to tamper with mail, snail or email.
As for copyright, as an artisan, when I make things and sell 'em, I have sold 'em. If people wish to make and keep things, they should not sell 'em.
Thats cake and eating it. However, to replicate for sale is what copyright is SUPPOSED to be about. The way it is being interpreted means that all these old records should be smashed when finished with, or better yet returned to the manufacturer for him to dispose of. They would love that.

I don't know how much of help this would be but my husband was able to connect to Limewire fine at his job using his laptop. Wasn't detecting a firewall and was working fine. He works within 40 minutes or so from our house. He brought his laptop in and it automatically detects a firewall refusing to connect.

There's obviously something wrong with our network here at home. We've tried every help suggestion here and nothing is working.

Our firewall, which is Windows XP Firewall, is allowing full access to limewire/gnutella & port 6346. We've even tried turning off the firewall completely and the program is still picking it up.

Any new suggestions?

Alltel is a client of AT&T Worldnet, which uses rotating blocks on various forms
of P2P to conserve bandwidth. These blocks typically last two to three weeks.

During this temporary block, try exploring other channels such as BitTorrent,
Edonkey and your own ISP's newsgroup servers.
