Transferring files to my Samsung mp3 player

Out of the blue, files no longer successfully transfer to my Samsung mp3 player using both WMP 11 and EmoDio. The device is connecting fine, and I do not have a problem transferring the same files to my iPod shuffle from my PC. Before I give in to the idea that I need a new mp3 player, I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the issue. P.S. - It seems to be a USB related problem because my MacBook Pro is not recognizing the player at all. I am using LimeWire 5 (latest version available for download on the website). Some files were downloaded using earlier versions, but the same files no longer transfer. Thanks!!

well if your machine isn't recognizing the player any longer then the fault certainly is not with LW....

I would find a way to use another person's machine and see if the player was recognized there..if so, then its your machine...if not, then its the player...

Although as you suggested, the problem is not necessarily with WMP, check this post http://www.gnutellaforums.com/tips-t...tml#post344530

As for the player, check to see if there's any firmware/device software updates. Also check the usb cable, if you have a spare one, try that one instead.

Thanks very much for the suggestions. The cable is specific to the Samsung player, but I was able to try it on another PC with the same error message. Apart from downloading files, all else is working fine. Oh well....

try simply getting the files off of the mp3 player....treat the player as a simple storage device and simply copy them to a folder on your machine

That was one thing I had not tried. A glimmer of hope. But no, it did not work. The player works fine in every other way -- transfer files off, playback, etc. Just can't move new ones on. Thanks anyway.

hmmmm.....

I read a while back that some players have a limit to the number of files..a physical number, not a GB number....perhaps an experiment is in order..to do so you would have to accept the possibility that you would lose a file on the player....

simply delete a file and see if you can add a new one to take its place....

or, perhaps it is simply full in the GB aspect...do you have any other sorts of info stored on it?

Are you by any chance moving single songs to the root of the player. If so, then try deleting a song and make a folder. Then put all songs in the folder.

Root can only hold a specific amount of files

Edit: posted at same time.

That's good to keep in mind. I actually deleted a whole bunch after transferring them to my PC because I was getting ready for a new batch of workout music. So strange that I could transfer off but not back on. Samsung said because I was out of warranty I would have to pay about $100 +/- for them to take a look. But for that money, I can just buy a new one.

That's another good point. I will double check, but I am pretty sure I was moving to the designated Music folder because the directory was showing all of the other songs I had there.
