Best multi-type downloader?

Hey all,

So, I just dumped shareaza after finding out it is now basically owned by THAT company. I'd used it for a couple years with no issues, but I got a little paranoid after finding out about that.

I've downloaded LWPE, and was about to install it. While reading some posts, I wondered if it is the best client for me.

Is it a good multi-platform downloader, or will it only handle torrents? If only torrents, what do you recommend as a multi-use client?

thanks,

ICM

ALL the programs listed on this forum are Gnutella network (G1) programs. LimeWire did introduce torrent downloading option a handful of years ago, but that's not its main feature.

When I saw you title the thread multi-platform I thought you meant as in Linux, Mac & Windows, etc.
However, you meant multi P2P networks. I'm not the best to answer this question but there are a few other programs which do download from multiple networks or/& torrents. Basically G1, G2 & possibly torrents. G1 is the regular gnutella network.

Several of the GnucDNA Based Gnutella Clients will also utilize the G2 network.

As for torrents, I'd personally recommend a separate specialised torrent program such as Vuse or uTorrent. These torrent programs are accepted at all torrent sites including private torrent sites, whereas the part-timer torrent programs are usually not allowed access at the private torrent sites. If you only seek public torrents then the part-timer torrent programs can be used in most cases.

BTW as for ShareAza, there are two versions. The company was taken over (hijacked) by a company group related to the RIAA a year or two ago. However, the original developers continued development on the original program at SourceForge.net. More explained here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/sharea...-com-fake.html

Thanks for the answer LOTR. and i apologize for the bad title. i changed it now.

I went ahead and installed LWPE, and so far so good, although if I understand correctly, it wont connect to all of the p2p networks?

I'll also look at utorrent and vuse.

Someone like File_Girl can best answer your question about other networks. But no, LW will only connect to G1 & can download torrents. LW does not connect to G2. :)

Ok, thanks.

So...calling File_Girl...!! You there?

I do not know what exactly you wanna know about other networks...But if you do not like Shareaza any more, you could try Morpheus or Morpheus Ultra which use the same G2 network like Shareaza do and it suport Gnutella and Neo network too...You can take a look here for Morpheus or Morpheus Ultra: Morpheus (Windows)

Wow, the response time here is damned fast!

Thanks for the reply file_girl71.

I discovered I was using the 'bad' shareaza...the one owned by that company beginning with D. and i'm not certain about the other shareaza on sourceforge...is it ok?

Meanwhile I'll check out Morpheus!

The Shareaza from Sourceforge is ok to use and is the real one...Good you discover the Shareaza you have is the fake one... ;)

IceColdMikey April 16th, 2011 03:43 PM

Ty FG...I feel like a noob at this...I didn't know it was fake until recently. Although I'm in Canada and we don't really care about p2p here, I STILL don't want the record companies knowing what stuff I'm 'borrowing' :D

Just d/l the source-forge Shareaza...thanks. Although it does seem slow now compared to LWPE.
