Unhappy can't share files!

As much as I'd like to share my files with other users on Gnutella, LimeWire 2.3 is not letting me! If I go into Library->File->Add folder to share, I can navigate all over my system, but I can not select anything. All I can do is select "Cancel". The selection in "Files of type" is *.*, but no actual files are ever visible, just folders. I'd like to help make Gnutella succeed and I have thousands of files to share, so how can I do it in Limewire?

I still can't add anything. The problem is that when the "Select directory" box pops up, the only thing it lets me do is choose "Cancel". I can navigate up and down through all my disks and all my directories, but I can't select anything!

I have so many mp3's I'd like to share - too bad this doesn't let me.

The Select button is there. The dialog box is titled "Select directory".

I can doubleclick on a directory which then brings up any subdirectories. The "Look in" box is there and I can navigate all over my computer to any directory I want.

If I click on "Select", the select button darkens - like it is being depressed - but nothing happens. All I can do is click on "Cancel" to close the dialog box.

Also, all I ever see are directories, never indivdual files, but since the box is titled "Select directory" I guess that is how it should be.

I'll try to install Limewire on another Windows system I have and see if it works there. Maybe it's something weird with Windows XP.

For what it's worth, I re-downloaded and installed Limewire 2.3.4 onto a fairly clean Windows XP system and experienced the same behaviour. Also, I did the same thing onto a Windows 2000 system - same thing. Tools->Options->Add gives you "Select directory". But the "Select" button does nothing. Maybe its a bug.

Default Workaround

If you feel confident in editing the limewire.props file directly with Notepad or any other text editor, you can add directories manually. Directories are separated by a ; and both the : after a drive letter and the \ between directory names have a \ in front like in this example.

DIRECTORIES_TO_SEARCH_FOR_FILES=C\:\\MP3;D\:\\MP3;

Great! Thanks for the suggestion.... I'll do that... I wish all this was documented somewhere. I hate GUI interfaces... this suggestion is the way to go, even if they do fix the GUI.

Another point: I installed LimeWire on my Linux box and it was fine. I was able to add a directory and the "Select" button worked as it should. Perhaps the version of Java that the Windows releases install is incorrect? I installed Java 1.4.0 on Linux before messing with LimeWire and it ran fine.
