These volunteers keep the board organized and moving. Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity) Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. 2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. 3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum. 4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks. 5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. 6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. 10. Posts should have descriptive subjects. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit. 13. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community. |

| Okay, this morning I tried running Limewire Pro 4.2.6 and all I saw was a pure grey screen with the limewire title at the top. I closed the program and tried again, same thing. Then I tried rebooting the computer and again got the same thing. I tried installing the latest version of java with no change. Then I decided to try reinstalling the program and am now encountering even more problems. The limewire website says the latest version is 4.2.6 but when I download and install it, it says it is version 4.4.1 and the language selection box pops up but it is pure grey with no text. Anybody have any ideas what could be wrong or what I should try to fix this? Win XP SP2 2.5 GHz 512 MB |
| ||||
| Did you update your Java also? Java version 1.4.x OR version 1.5 (take the JRE) Sometimes one version does better than the other depending on the person's particular set-up. |
| ||||
| The next two suggestions would be 1. to try deleting LW's preferences folder called .limewire (whilst LW is closed!) & found here: Windows NT 4.0 / 2000 / XP: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire OR Windows 98 / ME: Your .limewire folder is in "C:\My Documents" (BUT make a note of all your LW settings 1st, b/c after you delete the LW prefs folder you'll need to reset them.) 2. Uninstall Java 1.5 & install 1.4.2 instead & see if that makes any difference. Some people have had problems with Java 1.5 & then when they used 1.4.2 things were fine. How many incomplete & shared files do you have (approx)? How much ram? A late suggestion would be to try the LW Beta 4.3.4 which is not much different but fixed some people's problems: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml Last edited by Lord of the Rings : February 8th, 2005 at 11:27 AM. |

| Well, I just uninstalled Java 1.5 and tried installing 1.4 but after selecting the default folder location I get a pop-up box asking if I want to create a new directory but there is nothing in the pop-up (no buttons or text), just a grey box. Then when I close that and try to cancel the installation another grey pop-up box opens up asking me if I want to exit. I end up having to close the installation with the windows task manager. What the hell is going on? |

| hmmm just a thoght. Not sure but see if the instructions in this link help. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...512#post118512 I would also do as LotR suggested. Even if it doesn't resolve the problem your system will run much better.

| Nope , nothing seems to be working. I have tried all your suggestions and it still won't work. What could be preventing Java from running properly? For some reason I get a solid grey box in any Java based program. I just tried enabling Java from the Control Panel and when the box opened up it was all grey with the "Java Control Panel" title at the top. Last edited by scar69 : February 8th, 2005 at 06:09 PM. |

| Well I just found a way to see the text in the java applets and limewire. After I open the program I right click and select minimize. Then when limewire is in the system tray I right click on the icon and select restore and the text appears but the program is locked up and won't respond. This is getting frustrating. :mad: |

| Hi scar69, [edit -- The DOS window must be active when hitting CTRL-Break, not the LimeWire window.] If you could download the file LimeWireDebug at http://www.limewire.org/LimeWireDebug.exe . Place it in your LimeWire folder (C:\Program Files\LimeWire) and then double-click on it to start LimeWire. It will open a DOS-box while LimeWire is open so that we can see debug information. After the box opens, click on the top-left of it and choose 'Properties'. Select the 'Layout' tab in the window that pops up. In this screen, change the 'Height' value in the 'Screen Buffer Size' area to something really large (like 900) and click 'OK' Then click 'OK' on the box that comes up after that (it doesn't matter which radio-button is selected). Once you've done that, assuming that LimeWire is already in this 'greyed-out' state, make sure the DOS window is active (select it) and then hit Ctrl & Break on your keyboard. The Break key is generally on above 'Page Up', and the key usually says 'Pause' & 'Break' on the same key. Hitting that Ctrl/Break should cause a bunch of stuff to be printed out to the DOS box that opened up. You can select all that text by clicking the top-left icon in the DOS box again and choose Edit->Mark, then click where the text begins and drag down and to the right until the text ends. It should be highlighted in white. After it's highlighted, click the top-left icon again and choose Edit->Copy. After it's copied, if you could paste the text here, it will be very helpful in figuring out what's going wrong. My apologies for the extremely long and confusing steps to follow -- I don't know offhand of any easier way to get the information we need right now, but we'll look into ways to make it easier for the future. Thanks. Last edited by sberlin : February 8th, 2005 at 09:42 PM. |
