Can't install

Wanted to install the latest version of LimeWire. Just upgraded my computer to Tiger. I get the download okay-------and the install screen appears. But when I double-click------it just spins the drive for about ten seconds and blinks at me, so to speak, and nothing happens.

???

IBook G4

I thought the same thing you did. So-----while waiting for a response from the forum-----I went and tried to do my update.

The same thing happened. It would blink at me and never expand and install.

Now it seems it may be a disk utility thing?? It's a brand new copy of Tiger----which makes it more puzzling.

Do a safe boot & repair permissions. ie: reboot whilst holding down the shift key until you see the option for safe boot & choose that option. Once totally booted, go to utilities folder & open Disk Utility & repair permissions. Then reboot normally again. Try again with the LW installer. btw a safe boot will take much longer to start up than normal.

There's 2 ways to mount a dmg file, one with disk copy & the other is with disk utility. Disk utility you find the option in File menu.

How many drives or partitions do you have on your system? It may be a permissions issue in regards to location to install.

The machine will not boot in safe mode. I'd tried that before you'd suggested.

You're the 2nd person to say their IBook G4 won't do a safe boot. Perhaps they're not designed to. Oh well. Try repairing permissions anyway whilst it's started up normally.

What you can do is start up with the startup disk, repair disk. (But don't repair permissions from start up disk!!!)

Are you able to mount the dmg file?

Do you have stuffit expander on your system? Some people have problems with stuffit interfering by trying to mount the dmg file. Whilst it can, on some people's systems it doesn't work correctly.

BTW someone also was having similar problems: Limewire won't install
