Afraid to download for a 13 yr old

I am really worried about this Limewire for a child even with the adult content ignored. I want to keep using Itunes but it is 99 for ea. is it safer to buy Limewire Pro for six months and get the music and is it legal when you pay versus free? All of my kid's friends have it and i just don't want to open up my computer to everyone? Any good advice from anyone out there? Thanks!

In my opinion, LW isn't for kids. I won't let mine use it at all:p LW's on my computer only & I do the downloading.
Apart from the dubious content in some of the misnamed files out there (porn), there's just such a high risk of unwittingly downloading an infected file.

There are heaps of good stickies (in red) through the different forum sections...read through those, they're full of helpful onfo & tips for using LW.

Here are a couple to start with

How to find music (has tips for video as well, plus other useful info about keyword filters etc)

Buying Pro doesn't make downloading of copyrighted material legal in any way;)

And if you live in the US then downloading copyrighted material that you have not paid for or have a right to it by previously paying for it is not legal. Buying Pro is not paying for the right to copyrighted material. It is simply paying for the pro version of LimeWire.

Hopefully you have not gone to one of the many scam sites and purchased LimeWire. LimeWire basic is free to use for as long as you wish. And Pro cost $18.88 for Pro and 6 months of free upgrades. You can get either of them at the link below.

Thank you for the advice. I am concerned about the downloading of viruses. And also, thank you for the info about it not being legal even with the purchase of Limewire. I thought that was what made it legal. My child is tired of asking me for songs from Itunes and all of her friends are using it. I'm not too excited about the problems I've been reading about on the forums. I guess I just don't want any more problems with our computer. So if I decide to download this is there anyway to just download music only or is it for everything? Thanks again. :o

To be safe, always virus check everything you download (without exception) because there are loads of viruses and booby trapped files on the P2P network, including one that will turn all your MP3s into zip files.

Plus, I would like to let you know that you are doing the right thing by downloading items on behalf of your 13 year old daughter because the majority of items for download are adult orientated (and are even labelled with false names).

This is off-subject and I'm not exactly sure how to say this but here goes...
I think you are a friend I knew a long time ago in Paxton. If this is true I would VERY much like to get in contact with you and see if we can catch up on the past 18+ years (maybe closer to 25?).
Maybe the name Rusty will spark a memory in you.
I'll look back here in a day or two to see if you posted a reply.
:)
