Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Default Itunes Problems

1. When I search very few songs are coming up when I know many more should be.

2. When the songs download and I try to click on them they will not play. Also they show up in itunes however I am not able to drag them into my playlists and when I click on them nothing happens. It says how long the song is but I cannot play it. Dose limewire have a toll free number I can call?

I have figured out the following 3 things which have seem to help. I have downloaded 11 songs so far and plan on trying again tomorrow.

1. Make sure the songs are at least 1,000 kb I have downloaded the same file for 6 different songs which was about 177kb / 40 seconds and it said it was the song but really was some advertisement for some website , each time I downloaded it for the 6 different songs it was the same exact recording.

2. Make sure you are able to preview the song in itunes. Certain songs for some reason do not let you preview them in limewire (when you click the preview button nothing happens)and for whatever reason and you can also not hear them in itunes. So if you can't preview them in limewiere it means they are no good.

3. There is a LimeWire list in itunes but however you can not drag and drop the song from the limewire list into your itunes playlists. (I have no idea why, if you no why please let me know) I have however found away around it. If I go into LimeWire and click library and drag the file from the limewire library into a separte window which has my itunes playlist it seems to work.

1 Other question if I delete the songs from my Itunes Library will I still be able to listen to them in Itunes. I tried it once and a question mark appeared next to the song and it would not play so I don't plan on doing it again but I am just curious if this is supposed to happen.

Ps: About the not enough songs coming up , it seems it takes only a few seconds to load after the limewire window is on the screen but if I wait about a full minute before doing any searches the search engine seems to work better.

Yep, anything under 2000 KB is suspicious & should be disregarded (any song under that size would be either really short or at such a low bitrate that the quality would be really awful).
* WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of ! *

Fake files showing up in search results

The 'your name's LimeWire Tunes' in iTunes is just a playlist. All a playlist does is tell your computer where to find the music files - there aren't any actual music files in that list. So you can't create playlists or move songs to an iPod from there.
How to transfer music to my iPod (& iTunes)

If you delete files from the iTunes library then they won't play in iTunes any more. The ! symbol means that the file isn't in the iTunes library.

If you have problems with search results appearing slowly, you can also vary your search terms a bit. Look for artist or album, rather than song title. And try the 'All Types' search... sometimes that can yield different results.

O thanks so much so the only way to get songs into my playlists is from the limewire library (in limewire itself) and to drag and drop it into my itunes library/Playlists in a separate screen correct?

After the song is in my itunes playlist can i delete it from my limewire library in the limewire program itself? Also some of my songs in my playlist do not appear in my library in itunes which I thought was supposed to contain every song is this okay?

You can try dragging from LW's library into iTunes, but this doesn't work for some people. I'm not sure why - maybe it depends on the OS & iTunes version used?
If dragging directly from LW's library doesn't work, add from your saved folder instead. Go to LW's library, click on Saved Files. Highlight a file & click Explore... your saved folder will open. You can drag from that folder into iTunes

You can delete files from LW's library after they've been added to the iTunes library (remember the iTunes playlist doesn't contain the music files) as long as the file is still saved somewhere on your computer. If you don't want the files in LW's library any more, you can save them into a different folder somewhere (make a new folder).
Or, in iTunes go Edit > Preferences > Advanced. Tick the box to copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library > ok. Now songs will be saved to your iTunes Music folder when you add them to the iTunes library & you can delete those files from LW's library.
Adding Content to iTunes
When you delete from LW's library - use the option to send files to the recycle bin... that way, you can restore the files if you run into problems!!

If you just delete files from LW's library & don't make sure that they're saved somewhere on your computer - iTunes won't be able to find the files & then you'll see the ! symbol

What format are the songs that iTunes won't play?

Yeah I have no idea why I cant drag directly from LW's library into iTunes, I am running on a Toshiba Labtop I bought from Best Buy using Windows XP. On another Macintosh computer I was able to do it which is why I was surprised I could not do it on this newer one.

Your second part I didn't completly understand is there a way so when I add it to my play list is also adds my library. I did what you said here " Or, in iTunes go Edit > Preferences > Advanced. Tick the box to copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library > ok. Now songs will be saved to your iTunes Music folder when you add them to the iTunes library & you can delete those files from LW's library.
Adding Content to iTunes "

Okay so I will just leave them in my limewire library I dont mind doing this , they will stay there forever correct , meaning there is no chance they will ever somehow delete by themselves? I will be adding them to them my ipod after Christmas and want to make sure everythign is all good by then.

The songs not playing are mp3 but I cant preview them when downloading them and when I click on it , it goes to the next song. Only 1 of them was something else like wma itunes tried to convert it but it would not work.

Ps:Thanks so much for all you help so far the forums are great.

Maybe the mp3s that won't play are junk... it sounds to me like they might be. Do the file sizes look ok? Try doing a Bitzi lookup on the files & see if anyone else has rated them as useless (search for the file name again & when you see a file with a checked paper icon, that's one that you've downloaded).
How to use Bitzi

See if you can download a different version of the files. Try using the 'All Types' search & look for artist or album, rather than song title. Go for a file with 10 sources or less, or even a single modem source.

That LW playlist that you see in iTunes is completely independant of your library (if that's what you mean). That playlist only shows in iTunes if you have iTunes sharing on within your LW options (tools > options > iTunes). If you have iTunes sharing unticked in LW's options, you won't see that 'your name's limewire tunes' list in iTunes.

If you mean that you want to make a new playlist within iTunes - files have to be added to iTunes library first... only then can you make a playlist.

It's probably just as easy for you to have the files showing in your LW library (I do). They have to be somewhere on your computer, so your saved or shared folder is as good a place as any
As long as you don't delete the files from LW's library then they sould never disappear. But just remember - there's always the chance that someone else might use your computer one day & accidentally delete things. Or one day you might end up with some virus & lose files.

Always back up your files, just in case

Because iTunes only supports certain formats. I don't use iTunes as a video player, but AFAIK it can play mov, mpeg4 or H.264 files. mov files aren't worth downloading via Gnutella, as they're mostly porn/spam: mov files
I've played mpeg4 files in iTunes before & they were ok. I just tried a H.264 video, but it was very sad & kept freezing. I don't have a .mov file to try.

I'd suggest that you forget about iTunes as a video player - there are far better ones out there. IMO, iTunes is a tool for burning, playing music & adding files to iPod. But then, I'm using iTunes 7 at the moment & I don't know anything about iTunes 8 or it's features.

If you want a movie player, check out VLC (free) or other players in this link: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/tips-t...p3-fixers.html
VLC has codecs installed to play most file types & is really reliable.

When you get your iPod, that will be able to play mpeg4 or H.264 files, so you're going to need a converter if you want to add videos in other formats to your iPod (eg .avi). I use 3GP converter, but there are other freeware ones around (Videora is a popular one). This link that I gave you earlier How to transfer music to my iPod (& iTunes) has info about adding video to iPod, converters etc
