Old version always starts

I just started using the LW Pro. Its loads fine and starts up fine. Configure it with no problems and runs great. After shutting down i try to start it up and i get the older version (4.16). I went through and uninstalled the program. Looked around and didnt see any version of LW on my computer and re-installed LW Pro. Once again loaded/started/ran fine. Stopped the program and restarted . . . . again the LW 4.16 version started up. All icons/shortcuts refer to LW Pro. but LW 4.16 starts. How do i get rid of Ver 4.16 so i can start using Pro??? Currently using Win 7 if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance for your help!!

Try a couple of things, (1) deleting your LW preferences folder. See if that fixes things. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...ndows-7-a.html (make sure you backup your downloads(.dat) file first. This is a small tricky process but not complex. See near bottom of instructions. Do this first.)

If that does not fix it, see below. :)

(2) (a) Uninstall LW from the Start menu -> All Programs -> LW -> Uninstall.
. . (b) Run this utility: Crap Cleaner
. . (c) Reinstall LW Pro.

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried both fixes but it didnt correct the problem. Frustrating

Have you used the search function for LimeWire to see if & where a second version exists? Search all drives.
If LW 4.16 can be located, it can then be uninstalled. ;) There will be an uninstaller within that LW program folder (or within a sub-folder.)

I did that earlier. I know there has to be one on the cmptr the prob is finding it. Do you know what the exe routine is for LW 4.16 that may help in my search. Right now I've again deleted LW, ran the CCleaner and now defragging both drives. After that i'll search again and try to find it. If i find anything associated with LW its history. Defrag again and re-install LW Pro. All that in all my spare time. Any more ideas while i wait is appreactiated. Thanks again for ur help!!!!

I think normally LW would be installed into the applications folder of the C drive unless it was custom installed to a different location, such as a different drive/partition. Normally when you reinstall/install a later version, at the beginning of the installation process it will remove the previous version. Seems for some reason this has not happened. As hinted, my thought is that LW 4.16 was not installed into the regular location.

When doing a search on your computer for Limewire, use an all types of files including hidden files & extensions type of search. This can be set in the search options usually. Though I have Win 7, I only use it for testing, not use it regularly so I don't know it that well.

I don't suppose you have a second boot up drive on the computer. If yes, this might be why perhaps. And perhaps why a basic computer search does not see it.

Come to think of it, Win 7 does have some considerable differences to organisation than Win XP & earlier. I recall discovering a folder hierarchy not used in other systems starting from the C root level. Thus a search needs to be a thorough root level search inclusive of invisible folders & files & all types of files & extensions as mentioned.

If you view C drive from root level folder hierarchy expanded you will see what i mean.

Sorry not to get back to the forum till now been extremely busy. Well here's the update. I've cleaned the registry, search for LW, searched for 4.16 (version) deleted anything that referenced LW, cleared trash and defraged. Guess what . . . . still didnt get rid of it. Its almost funny, sooooooooooo i said lets try this. I installed it into the J drive. Well that seemed to work to the point i can use LW Pro. Older version is on my computer but i'll be D**n if i can find it. I'm now in business with LW Pro. Thanks for the help on this frustrating issue.
