what is faster on LW??? cable/dsl , modem , t1 , or, t3 or higher ???

From slowest to fastest it's modem, cable/dsl, T1, T3 or higher. But you should set your speed to whatever speed you actually have

How do i tell which one i have???

Here's some clues: 1. What speeds are T1/T3, etc. for LW, & also 2. More on LW connection speeds, & then 3. What is a T1?

To find your speed, close LW & Choose nearest location for a speed test & only have your browser open: http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/speedtest/
If the result is quoted in kbps (kilobits per second) then you'll need to divide it by 8 to give you KB/s (KiloBytes per second)!

Hello everyone, I am sorry, I read all this thread but but, but,,, I can never seem to find what I am looking for even though I triped over it looking. So if one of you don't mind,,

I have a Ethernet cable connection. speed running at 100.0 Mbps.
When I configured LimeWire, I set my connection to DSL/Cable since that was what I have.
If I dont ask I wont be sure I've set things to the better. So,,, Will someone tell me please, or suggest which connect would be better T1 T2 T3 ??? or leave it where its at? and just where to set the bandwidth slider for the uploads and the downloads please. I almost caught on to the post about LW being able to adjust for the connections speed on its own.. but I dont trust what I think I understood, now after thinking about it. I think I stayed one to many days at WoodStock 69, or was that 68..

Sorry for asking about this in this thread, but how does LW ultrapeer Leaf connection work? The status shows Outgoing all the time. If the Ultrapeers are connected to my shared folder. Is what I see uploading in my monitor window what the ultrapeers are uploading for someone? Or are the ultrapeers just holding up a billboard showing my shared files folder?
I remember reading that those with slower connect speeds are limited to what ever that speed may be.. So if that be the case then why have down loads uploading from 8 different hosts, if one can upload faster than they can download? I'm so confussed,, And one last thing for now. If you set the settings for freeloaders. If the setting is that you have to share one file to not be classified as a free loader, is that a setting for classifying myself? or a requirement for anyone wanting to down load from me, and them having to leave one? I dont want anyone to leave me a file unless I've asked for it.
The question I think reads funny... But what would a good setting be for files to share, and which side of allow feeloaders rarely, or always should be set on that control?

If you really have a 100 Mbps connection (that's 12 MB) then you should be a T3 You can do a speed test here

Configuring LW for best performance

If you're a leaf, you'll connect to ultrapeers. With LW basic you'll connect to 3 ultrapeers, with Pro 5 ultrapeers. Ultrapeers are people with fast connections, high uptime & no firewalls who can handle a lot of traffic. This will explain ultrapeers

If you're a leaf, you'll see 3 or 5 outgoing ultrapeers in your connections window. If you're an ultrapeer, you'll see lots of connections to peers & leafs. Ultrapeers are just handling lots of connections... so you & everyone else can search & download successfully.

Yes, download speed depends on your connection speed as well as the host's. If you try & download from a host with dial up connection, doesn't matter if you have a T3 speed... the download will still be slow. But if you have a reasonable speed & can download from 8 hosts with a reasonable speed... you'll get your file a lot quicker than downloading from just one host with that same speed. You take a bit from everyone & the file downloads quickly. Just one host is far slower. But then again, you can download a file from one host with a really fast connection faster than from several hosts with a very slow connection. See, it so depends on a person's speed. Maybe the user guide would help you to understand more

The freeloader cutoff is really up to you. How much emphasis do you place on sharing? I have mine set to 20 files. But to be honest, I don't know (& I'm not sure anyone does) how well this option to limit freeloaders actually works. Anyway... it's just about impossible to tell if someone's a freeloader
