I've had that problem for the last two days - ditto with Shareaza, but not Limewire or Morpheus.. It's a pity though, since I hate adware..

Has there been a buggy evolution/new version?

I'm having the same problem (ie: it starts to connect but never actually does)

I downloaded Gnucleus via the links on the Gnutella site (the links lead to file-front I think)

Anyway, I uninstalled it and tried to download it from the link posted by icarus2de above...

However, this time I just got an error message when I tried to install it ("GnucDNA could not load" )

...Where's the best site/place to download a stable version from?

The problem you are having is too many people out there that are firewalled (including yourself adding to the problem).
You have to learn a little bit before you go jumping into file sharing.
You have to learn how to port forward through your firewall. It's not rocket science.
If everyone is firewalled (and most people are now because of cable modem routers) then no one will be able to connect to anyone else.
There are less and less people with high speed connections and open ports, you all need to spread the word before this gets worse.
That's why you can't connect, as soon as you open a port everyone will come to you instead and you will be able to get all the files because "push" will work for you now.

Well, if you stop being superior and help him out, won't it work a lot better?

Default same problem

I am having the same problem. I don't understand Kfiler's explaination. Do we need to change gnucleus or our firewall to get it to work for everyone?

I have the same problem, I would like to know how you got over it. I don't think that the chap knew what he was talking about, as I set my firewall to allow connections from Gnucleus on all ports. In theory it should do just that, I should not have to forward any ports. Gnucleus uses random ports for connecting, so I don't know which ports to forward!

Sometimes it helps to watch what clients you are connected to.
Set your connections to more than 10, wait till you are connected to valid nodes like limewire or bearshare and then do your search.
After you get your results, set the number of connections back to normal.

The original poster also mentioned he was using the LAN only client, doesn't that mean you have to tell it who to connect to in a "buddy" list?

Try the normal client, the LAN version is for when a small group of people know who to connect to.

Post forwarding is a good keyword to put into google or to look for in your router's instruction manual, and normally 6436 is the port that gnutella clients use.

It's not just your firewall on your computer, if you have a router that needs to have port forwarding set up.

Yeah I'm having this problem of connecting and never connecting ...

I've tried a number of versions

2.0.4.0
2.0.2.0
2.1.1.0

None of them seam to be working...

Also I let my firewall let gnucleus through
and I have a static IP so I don't think I have any port fowarding issues...

Default Gnuc no connect

Hello all,
I can assure you this is an operating system config issue.
As I have 7 machines on my home network and dozens at work. I will only refer to my home experience in that 5 of my PCs run Win2k and have no problem connecting to the Gnutella clients and the 2 I have running XPSP2, 1 with Home Edition and 1 with Media Center Edition, will not connect. All of which are on a broadband router with a NAT. Putting the XP machines through the DMZ and XP firewall turned off didn't help.
The research I have done so far indicates the issue is focused around the tcpip driver and the number of connections allowed. appearently tcpip in SP2 is limits internet connections (ports or port range).
Trusty Files is a P2P that has a fix for their program but doesn't work for Gnuc.
See: http://trustyfiles.com/help-sw-xpsp2.php
I 'll figure this out soon and post again
Hope I gave a little help to point every one in the right direction.
good luck.

Default cant connect but used to

I had it working w/XP pro service pack 2. I bought a new router (wireless) to accommodate my new laptop and havent been able to connect since. It crashed (not sure why) after connecting the new router so I reinstalled it with no luck. I am even putting my pc in the DMZ.

Default Solution

I had the same problem as eveyone else here. I did a little research on port forwarding and found the site PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall
It will help you configure your router to allow the Gnutella network
This is the page I went to once I clicked on Gnutella.
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall
It has a listing of different router names. Just find yours and go through the directions. Hope this fixes yours like it did mine.

Odd, I have a lynksys router and never did the port forward setup. I just looked and my "behind a firewall" selection in preferences isn't checked either (Gnucleus 2.2.0.0)
