why does bearshare always say 'host not connected'?

AaronWalkhouse April 20th, 2006 05:24 PM

There can be many reasons.
Describe your internet connection, including all the software and hardware.

dejavuguy June 16th, 2006 06:53 AM

I have that same promblem, for my internet connection, I'm on a wireless router, using cable internet, please help.

thanks

AaronWalkhouse June 16th, 2006 02:09 PM

Go on. Describe them.
You have to be specific so we can look up the solutions. :p

dejavuguy June 16th, 2006 03:56 PM

Ummm, I'm using a Netgear wireless router, and Geforce cable internet. Bearshare did work for a while, but now for the past 3 days its had the red light on saying host not connected, I even turned off my firewall, and still I have the red light.

Looking at console, in Bearshare I have a few red lines:

If there's anymore information I could give you to help, I'd be glad to.

AaronWalkhouse June 16th, 2006 04:08 PM

Download and run the BearShare Diagnostics and post the results,
then find the model numbers of the modem and router and post them too.

Do you have any other computers hooked up?

Spyware Zango found!
System drive C: is not configured for NTFS file system.
BearShare configured TCP port 6348 appears to be firewalled.
BearShare configured UDP port 0 appears to be firewalled.
BearShare currently shows port 6348 for TCP and port 0 for UDP that need to match with your firewall/router configuration
BearShare configured "UDP port" setting should be altered to reflect a non-zero value - suggest 6348
BearShare configured 'Automatically remove completed downloads' setting = YES - this can cause errors
You are behind a NAT firewall and/or router.
Refer to the following guidelines to rectify firewall issues at:
 - the Firewall FAQ at the official BearShare Help site www.bearshare.com/help/firewalls/index.htm,
 - the definitive guide to port forwarding and setting up a static IP address at http://www.portforward.com/english/applications/port_forwarding/BearS/BearSindex.htm

I have 2 other computers connected to the router through ethernet cords.
The router is a moterolla Surfboard, and the router is a netgear wireless router.

I've had bearshare for at least nine months and it's been nothing but perfect. About 3 months ago I noticed that I couldn't get certain titles to download at all. popular movies and what not. They'd que up but I'd get nothing. Than about 2 weeks ago my Bearshare quick all together. Like the previous people on this topic my hosts can't connect to give me the goods. I did the bearshare diagnostic but I don't know how to post it here. I have Time Warner cable and use their cable modem. The modems brand name is Webstar and it' s made by Scientific Atlanta. Inc

I have the blinking red light to, hosts not connecting. My room mate shares the same internet connection and they have no problem with using bearshare. I have no firewalls up so I dunno what the prob is.

Go into Setup/Connection and change the port number at the bottom from 6346
to any number between 1024-65535. Once you have done that, go to
PortForward.com and select your router, then select BearShare and follow the
instructions.
