Default just purchased bearshare, and it doesn't work (well)

Just purchased the Pro version running on mcafee firewall with FULL priviledges. I have both the far left and right lights GREEN. I can do a search and receive many instant hits w/ full green ranks (interestingly enough there is no 'data' info like bit rates), however when I click on ANY of them to download, they go into a waiting phase and I get nothing. Did I just waste some money?!?

Firewall not the issue
The 2 'peers' that I am connected to have what appear to be an on and off rate from 216bps to 792bps to 1.3Kbps, etc. My connection is asymetric set for 5000 in and 500 out (which is below actuals based on numerous online speed testers). Port is 6346.

Any thoughts?

Well, the answer might lie here:
Bearshare has been sold out to the riaa
And the solution here:
BearShare has been sabotaged.
