BearShare currently shows port 6348 for TCP and port 0 for UDP that need to match with your firewall/router configuration
BearShare "UDP port" setting is 0 - this usually indicates firewall problems with UDP traffic.
You are behind a NAT firewall and/or router. They need to be correctly configured to allow BearShare to access the Internet.
This is a common cause of problems with BearShare - it can't communicate.
Check your firewall allows BearShare to communicate on TCP port 6348 and UDP port 6348
If your connection is via a router, make sure it can forward BearShare traffic to a static IP address on your computer
Refer to the following guidelines to correctly configure your firewall and router for use:
 - www.bearshare.com/help/firewalls/index.htm - the Firewall FAQ at the official BearShare Help site,
 - www.portforward.com/english/applications/port_forwarding/BearS/BearSindex.htm - the definitive guide to port forwarding and setting up a static IP address.
(Hint: use static IP address 192.168.1.3, TCP Port 6348, and UDP port 6348).
FixLSP.BAT was generated on the desktop and may need to be run (subject to advice) to rectify LSP chain issues.

Bearshare connects now and again but the download rate is slow when it is connected. I am using toucan up to 8mbps broadband with a netgear dg834g v2 router with one computer connected via wireless (this one) and one connected via cable (not currently turned on). I have followed the instructions to configure windows firewall and have also set my router to allow both tcp and udp port 6346. Any help appriciated.

using an older version of bearshare, never had a problem windows vista, Im firewalled, have antivirus ETC.. Have set up so b.share is not blocked. I ran a diagnostic before, was offline for 6 months, back on and same problem not connecting. i have checked everything (advanced user) cant find the right diagnostic program for b. share 5.2.5, (doesn't have to b 525) can be an older or a little newer. I dont want to download the newest, because I have taken out alot of viurses out of customers P.C's / laptops. Any suggestions on what web site to go to. Thank-you
I am not getting into the specifics of my pc, i have broadband conn., 1terabye h.drive 500GB of ram. NVIDIA graphics and realtek sound card........ thanks again if someone can help

After re-reading your post, I suspect your connection cache is out of date & that is only issue. I think this following post-link has a fresher supply of connection cache than I supplied some months ago .. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/host-c...ache-here.html

If all else fails then see my original reply to this post below:

Do a clean install. But make sure you back up your previous downloads settings file. Install this version http://www.gnutellaforums.com/host-c...bearshare.html then replace the downloads file whilst BS is closed. Hopefully it works ok. You WILL need to remove the previous firewall exception rule & add a new one for this version of BS. I presume you do not have two firewalls running?

Peerless August 4th, 2011 08:04 PM

I've noticed that any prolonged period of no use of BS will cause this issue...as LOTR notes a fresher cache can make all the difference in the world...as a last ditch just have some patience and you will eventually get connected (most likely to LW users) and after a time will get connected to some BS users....
