BS can't connect to Gnutella

my 2 home systems - XP home and Pro - used to run new BearFlix just fine until 2 days ago. Comcast digital through MS WiFi

Now neither one will connect. Host connections keep trying "connecting...", but never connect. Sometimes get "timed out" in red.

Suspect - the most recent MS security updates, which I loaded 2 days ago.

Everything in the firewall area looks OK according to your Help items.
Suspect- firewall instructions are for cable LAN, but I am on WiFi secure WPA

Pleae help if you can.

Thanks in advance

You can check your two suspects by uninstalling those updates and by deleting and recreating
your firewall rules. It is more likely that Comcast is blocking it, though, as they were caught
illegally interfering with P2P traffic recently and they probably think they can get away with it
because they haven't been charged with the crime or sued by their customers yet.

Is there some aspect of BearFlix that is illegal ?

AaronWalkhouse October 22nd, 2007 05:26 AM

Is there some aspect of BearShare or LimeWire that is illegal? BearFlix is just a crippled version
of BearShare which blocks everything other than video or picture files.

I was unable to to connect for a short while a few days ago...

...As for BearFlix... the lad and owner over at ePirate likes it and you think to yourself ''why!?'' just use the test and utility.

Aaron,
Thanks but no joy- still wont connect to hosts.
I also un-installed then installed the BS 5.0 beta from technutopia.
It worked "better" in the sense that it sometimes got new message "handshake" trying to connect. but still never actually resolved.
I'm stumped.

Try unzipping this into the C:\Program Files\BearShare Test\db folder:

Edit: Fresher connection cache can be found in this post: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/host-c...bearshare.html

Ay Dubya...

I don't think you picked up on the thrust of my query.

Musiclab flogs Bearflix... Musiclab = legal bullshˇt, right(ish) ?

And, just exactly how long a video file might one expect to D/L with Bearflucks ?

AaronWalkhouse October 24th, 2007 10:11 AM

It was once rumoured BearFlix only downloaded small videos.
I never bothered to check, because I don't care to use crippled software.

Thanks a million! That completely fixed the connection issue for me. It's why I came here and joined.
