Change from 2.9.6 to 2.9.7 ?

After a very long wait, release 2.9.6 was delivered, and less thant 48 hours later 2.9.7 came up.
Any ideas what was fixed ?

Cheers

Nothing much important, a little bug that could show wrong speeds when uploading, possible synchronization bugs, fixes for possible nullpointer exceptions and MacOS specific fixes.

Switch

A quick question - how many users on the Gnutella network have to switch to the next gen clients (limewire 2.9.x above) for there to be an improvement in network health, speeds and search results?

Regards.

good question. In the last 18 hrs, I've seen more uploads than ever before (one Gnucleus 1.8.4.0 managed a 118MB .mpg @ an average of 32 KB/s), the searches are finding lots of good alternates of files I've been trying for more than a few weeks, and downloads are proceeding better than expected. All in leaf mode.

So--looks like it's already better here. I'll enjoy thinking this for now, even though it looks like some of the downloads aren't finishing properly.

As Stief said, we're already seeing some fantastic performance improvements. Our new exchanging of tables between Ultrapeers means that Ultrapeers now have sparse representations of their neighboring Ultrapeers' files, just as they do their leaves. This change alone has already cut out about 40% of query traffic, leaving more bandwidth for searches for rare files. As more people start to use 2.9.7, you should see this get even better, and 3.0 will further improve performance.

I see... I wondered, because when I connect I'm still seeing a lot of 2.8 and even 2.7/2.6 (!) clients around... I got to thinking if the network health whether would ever be improved unless a significant number of people used the new clients.

Anybody know how reliable the vendor/version listings are? (I've a LimeWire 2.2.1 showing in my uploads just now).

also, is there somewhere I can find a list of the client codes?

As for network health, most of my completed uploads are going to newer clients . . .

That is interesting. I'm very happy to hear the health of the network is improving. I know we will continue to see 2.6/2.7 etc on the network, because after that the coders CHANGED the limewire window code significantly so that at least on my computer, no 2.8/2.9 work at all. Completely dead.

I posted the problem in another window. But this is an example how many will remain using older clients (because serious unrepaired bugs appear from 2.8 on).
