LimeWire 1.6 beta available

A beta version of LimeWire 1.6 is now available for testers at www.limewire.com/beta/ Adventurous users are encouraged to try it out and report any problems they may have. If everything checks out ok, we will make this available on our website for the general public.

Version 1.6 fixes some of the problems with 1.5:
<ul>
<li>The 'missing javaw.exe' bug should be solved on Windows 95/98/ME.
<li>LimeWire should connect to router.limewire.com properly, provided the server isn't overloaded.
<li>Wi***/98/ME users running new.net are warned at install time. (LimeWire won't actually take the program off for you.)
<li>The system tray is disabled on all systems but Win2k and WinNT. (To Wi***/98/ME users: you'll have to wait for this feature.)
<li>Better Java 1.1.8 support for some weird configurations.
</ul>

As with version 1.5, LimeWire 1.6 has the following improvements over 1.4b:
<ul>
<li>Improved resumed downloads.
<li>Measures speeds of remote hosts more accurately, displaying them in green if of high confidence.
<li>Can launch files while they download.
<li>New virtual machine should be much faster and more reliable.
<li>Can minimize LimeWire into the system tray on WinNT/2k.
<li>Improved push uploads and downloads.
<li>Improved BearShare QHD compatibility.
<li>Fixed bug downloading files with strange extensions.
<li>Restores window size on startup.
</ul>

We hope you enjoy LimeWire!

Sincerely,
Christopher Rohrs

I tried to download it, but when I did anything the download box disappeared and left an Incomplete in my save folder. Anybody know what happened?

Hey you guys do know you have to make the LimeWire available for people to download in order for people to try it out. This has happened with LimeWire 1.5 and now 1.6? C'mon whats going on over there?

Kirby: the same thing happens with me.

Beta Feedback

This is a great update! I like the native look & feel (MacOSX). I appreciate all the work you guys do to make Limewire better.

I had a little problem...well...not so little, I guess. The GUI went wacko. The montitor tab had been showing, uploading 4 files. I disconnected because I wanted to do some serious web surfing and left the files to finish uploading. When I was finish surfing, I planned to reconnect to the gnutella network.

Anyway, when I went to check on the upload status, the window was frozen. It couldn't be moved, and the red, yellow, & green gumdrops wouldn't do anything. The window contained a line of text for each file being uploaded. The text was mostly unreadable, overlapping, and appeared to be made of large pixels. The rest of the window was mostly empty and sort of an orange color.

Clicking on the LimeWire icon in the Dock causes the Dock to freeze for about 15 seconds, although I can still switch to other apps by clicking their windows.

There is still network activity, so it appears that the files are continuing to upload, while the GUI went bye bye.

Let me know if there is a better place to provide beta feedback and I will do it there.

Is anyone else trying out the betas? Any problems so far? It looks like we have had a couple hundred people trying them out.

Thanks

I downloaded 1.6 (Windows 98) this morning and found no major bugs, and I downloaded a few things fine. There was one glitch I found. On the scroll bars, when you scroll using the middle thing (Not the up and down things) the list blurs and it takes a second or two to restore it.
That brings me to a suggestion...
Are you going to put scroll wheel compatibilaty in LimeWire anytime soon? I have a mouse with one (Who doesn't?) and I would really like it.

ScrollWheel

I don't think Java can handle the scroll wheel input. If I am wrong, I would love to see a source of information on that. Personally, I would like that feature myself. So, you are saying that the scroll wheel just blurs things.

Thanks
