Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Default LimeWire 4.9.11 problems & should LW 4.8.1 still be available

Any chance of making LW 4.8.1 still available for those having problems with 4.9.11? What it'd probably take 5 mins to add the licencing item to it to match it. Then call it 4.8.2

The oddest error I've seen so far with LW 4.9.11 is this Pictures/text in Limewire gui are distorted... With the filter details showing backwards.

As I warned a while ago, many of the old solutions for LW simply don't work with the new version. At present there seems to be no answers for some of them.

Feel free to offer your reasons for your answers. I'm aware of people (some very experienced) who are no longer able to run in ultrapeer mode effectively or suffer some related problems. Not to mention a sudden rash of crashes or other odd behaviour due to the new version. The beta seemed to be added to the official version rather rashly/hastily. How about sorting out the problems before releasing it as an "official" version. Almost as though there was a race against time to get "something" out. 4.9.11 Do you guys ever rest As they say about wines, this must'a been a bad season...

There are a lot of things wrong with the new version but IMO it's still much better than version 4.8.1 and there are also some changes that are very important for the future of LimeWire that cannot be ported back to 4.8.1 that easily.

Hi Lord I voted yes. I do believe it should be avalible for the people who are having trouble with the beta. I think allot of what happend this weekend is that allot of people do not understand the trouble you can have with a beta and for whatever reason do not save a copy of a version that works for them on there hard drive. I have copys LW back to 4.4.2. So if I am testing a beta I have a backup to drop back on if I have to. Also allot of the people who got the new beta are probbaly new to LW and got what was avaliable. Any way I do see allot of positive potiential in 4.9.11 there are some great features in it. Such as the UPnP in previous versions if I was running through the router not port forwarding I had a very hard time getting good connections and very few people could DL from me. With 4.9.10 I was able to get a good connection great search results and more people were able to DL from me but LW would reset my router at times and I would have to manuelly reset it and reconnect. In 4.9.11 this dissapered and I got great connections people were able to start DL from me in about 30sec most of the time I had 10 DL and 10 waiting. This never hapend with 4.8.1 I saw DL speeds of 600+ this weekend never saw that before. And I never got around to testing it without the router. So with the results I saw this weekend it tells me that ther is going to be more files available in the future because LW is doing a better job of configuring itself if a person is behind a router thus making those files available that were not before. There were some down sides and some people had allot of problems but you have to say one thing what a test they will probbaly get more Info from this weekend and be able to fix more bugs due to the fact that the only version available was 4.9.11 than they have gotten on an previous version. Anyway yes it is time make 4.1.8 available until you get the bugs worked out. Looking forward to the next beta though

the 4.9.11 was released as an official version. it should be stable enough to widely distribute now.

the only fix that was made in version 4.9.11 was a splash bug that was present in 4.9.10. rkaspi and i reported this as a bug right before zab was about to release 4.9.10 as the official version. no other changes to the code were made.

but i voted no because changes in the code reflect the network performance. downgrading to a previous version will degrade network performance as new features and protocol enhancements and changes are made. this may create incompatibility between clients. such a problem exists with license recognition, upload percentage total, protocol changes in the way each node talks to each other... etc.

the new update mechanism also tries to eleviate the need for a centralized distribution center. for example, this new mechanism could keep limewire updates alive even after the official limewire headquarters and site is shut down. it also helps load-balancing and greatly reduces bandwidth requirements and use of the actual lime servers that are used to distribute binary copies.

i would also like to say that there are MANY bugs that were overlooked in this new official version because this version was rushed. but it has some internal house code that will be in future versions of limewire that will make it easier to add some great new and exciting features. this "4.9" version is a marketing ploy.. im unknown to the theory or reason behind it. but 5.0 should fix alot of these bugs aswell as quite a few new features that look very promising. i am still compiling a list of bugs to report to the devs when they get back from their 'vacation.'

btw, like zab said, there are some SWEET innovations that are soon to be incorporated within limewire. i personally cant wait for this stuff. i took a look at the source code to gregorios chat implementation and i must say.. its pretty damn cool.

Hi ultracross just trying to gain a little knowledge here. You said the only fix made was a splash screen. Does this mean that the problem of LW resetting my router may come back it happened 4 times with 4.9.10, I did not change anything other than install 4.9.11 and it never happened again. could it have been a bad install of 4.9.10?

I can see why I jot better results with DL speeds and UL connections. This can probably be explained by heavier traffic on the network while testing 4.9.11. But I can not figure out why 4.9.10 would change router and 4.9.11 would not and I pushed it pretty hard by that I mean I would click on file after file to DL 20+ files at a time all would complete usually got a couple corrupt files per test. But no problems speeds of 600+ while UL at 30kb. But when I would do this with 4.9.10 my router settings would change LW would still work but cruising the net slowed way down this was after the files had completed, so it had nothing to do with bandwidth. If I reset my router all would be fine. Anyway any Idea why.

grandpa1: it could be due to UPnP and UDP that causes heavy load on your router along with high bandwidth usage. this could slow down your router to the point of crashing. do you use an intermediate hub?

because if you reset your router and your computer is plugged in directly to it, then it also resets your DHCP settings. this can clean up problems your having locally on your computers tcp stack too. that why it would seem to work better after you reset your router.

but if you use a hub, then you reset your router, the dchp information will stay current and your tcp stack doesnt clear. this would also be true even if you were plugged into your router directly but had your tcp/ip information static. because it would never reset anyways.

but, this is all just a guess. since you are feeling the effects of this on other apps like an inet browser, it would be very reasonable to say its not limewire but its either your router or your local tcp stack getting overloaded and needing reseting. it COULD also be a bad UPnP implementation by limewire itself not closing ports etc. (i never had any success with it anyways.) along with the F2F xfers using UDP, this protocol COULD overload your router due to its very fast xfer rate along with enormous downloads you have in progress.

the best way to make sure its not the last two thats causing all the problems, port forwarding is your best way to do it.

if you are port-forwarding already it could just be your router or your local system getting clogged.. also be aware that winXP SP2 limits the number of sockets a program can open at any one time. this too could be a possible cause and is still an issue with limewire (but MAY have been fixed) and lots of other network programs that use a large number of sockets. (especially multi-p2p apps)

[edit] the corruption is either 2 things: the servent is serving you corrupt packets, or limewire is not writing the data packets to disk fast enough. zab said limewire would try to fix this on its own if it can, but will only display the corrupt message dialog after a certain percentage was found to be corrupt. if you click yes to keep the file downloading, i believe it will still keep trying to download the correct data in place of what limewire believes is invalid data. if im wrong someone please correct me.[/edit]

Even better, limewire corrupts the data while writing it to disk - or rather it forgets to write parts of that data it downloaded to disk but thinks that it had written it...

That is one of the more serious problems with 4.9.11.

ultracross I use a linksis 4 port router plugged directly to cable modem 3 computers connected to it. With static IP address.

I sent in a couple of stack traces. I believe the first one was done when LW or whatever changed the settings on the router. The other was when I froze 4.9.11 while playing with the bandwidth throttle they are. I believe this to be a UPnP problem not a overload problem. Because I pushed 4.9.11 allot harder than I did 4.9.10 more simultaneous DL greater DL speeds etc.

Yes, It worked fine when I had 4.8, I downloaded 4.9 and it simply wont work AT ALL. the entire program freezes after 2 minutes of running, no one has helped me so I'm assuming that it's because no one else ha the sam problem or no one cares. I'd just rather have 4.8 back so I can at least download.
