OK what is the difference between the 4.9.30 release and the 4.9.30 Beta did somebody forget to stop the new beta available link on the pro page. Or is there Sposato be a different version there.

Grandpa .. My feeling is that someone ****ed up. Surely the official release of 4.9.30 beta should be 4.9.31

and a lot of people are having problems upgrading to 4.9.30 pro. Are these two things connected?

the 4.9.30 is a beta version, but is being released as an service update to the public. so it is technically the official version. there is no 4.9.31 release of any sort yet. the developer(s) are trying to structure the network right now, so if people would update to these versions faster, everything would progress alittle better. some features of the new versions will need alot of the network to be updated to work correctly. this will soon be true for DHT too. the 4.9.30 version sorts out the UP situation. the gnutella network has too many Ultrapeers. now im not saying to disable Ultrapeer abilities in limewire, but the new ultrapeer requirements have been set alittle higher now to increase the density of the network (basically making the searches return faster and more results.) this keeps the network from being so spread out and puts everybody real close to each other.

The one you can download from the beta page has beta notifications enabled by default. We figured that people that downloaded the beta version would be interested in receiving notifications about new betas.

From what I could see, this has been true since at about version 4.9.28 which also had me wondering.

Ultracross said "so if people would update to these versions faster, everything would progress alittle better."

I notice the huge number of old and very old versions being used, and it seems the average user who comes nowhere near the forums has no idea of the updates available, or has no reason to want to change.

I have always been confused by the notification preferences/options, and do not seem to always receive them even if they are selected.

How to get the average network user to keep up to date is sothing that may not be that easy.

pro users dont receive them if zab doesnt want them to yet.

i think he will send pro users the update message when they get a pretty good final version out of the 4.9 series. then move on to 5.0 betas! oh what fun!

regarding in-network updates: the update system has all been stream-lined for the basic versions (4.9.xx, i cant remember exactly what version it was enabled in.). so when a user connects to the network, he will automatically download the installer. then limewire will tell him he should update with a popup. the installation is very smooth and requires only a few seconds and is the whole process is entirely without user-intervention. (besides pressing update now on the popup.) so if everyone atleast updates to 4.9.30, they will be auto-updated (or agressively nagged to update) on every release.

As far as the message you are receiving about digital signatures that is a windows warning telling you that the file cannot be verified by windows and windows does not know if it is safe or not. As far as the difference between Basic and Pro. With Pro in Leaf mode you get 5 connections and Basic you get 4. Thus you theoretically get 20% more search results More search results = more possible connections = greater download speeds.

With Pro you are allowed to have 10 connections when downloading, With basic you allowed 8. Thus 10 = potentially greater download speeds than 8. 10 X KB/s = KB/s 8 X KB/s = KB/s

If you are on dial-up or any other type of slow connection there is really no noticeable difference as far as your speed goes because you don't have the ability to take advantage of the speeds that Lime Wire is capable of getting.

I use Pro because the developers of LAW are continually working to improve the program and I believe they deserve our support.

Yes you can upgrade to betas as they come out from the bottom of your pro install page.

I'm having the same issue on linux Kubuntu I've tried reinstalling Java 3 times... also with different versions (4.2 and current) with no luck. but this might be a kubuntu (breezy) issue because I tried going back to .28 with no success and it worked before moving to breezy.
