Browsing Host

So I got my friends IP address for Limewire and he got mine. I typed it in to Direct Connect then it gave me the could not browse host error box. He can browse me, but I can't browse him! I know he was online because I was talking to him as we tried to figure it out. I have version 4.9.30 Pro if it helps, and I can browse other hosts (most of them). If someone could please tell me what the problem here is and if possible a solution. Thanks.

Not an answer but a related question, to save someone having to reply to us separately....

I figure that if someone is downloading stuff from my library the chances are they'll have other stuff that would appeal to me.

Monitor shows that some people downloading from me are browsable (the icon lights up) and some aren't. And some of the ones who apparently are actually aren't (error message pops up if you try to).

So what determines these circumstances? More to the point, which am I? I'm happy for people to browse my shared files, but how do I know that I'm not appearing as one of those irritating jerks who downloads piles of stuff from a given source but remainsapparently reluctant to let anyone see what's on the shelves?

In order to direct connect, you need to have upld & downld slots open & bandwidth available. Also, if you select the direct connect search type, your ip should be visible above the search box. If you don't see it, then your softw firewall or modem/router might not be configured properly. Did you see How to use Magnet Links & Direct Connect

Browsing depends also on having bandwidth & slots open. If you browse someone & no files show or the browse fails, it does not mean they're not sharing. It can be due to many reasons as suggested. It's also more difficult to browse people who don't have their firewalls configured correctly to allow full access. eg: I've browsed someone I've been downlding from & the browse has either failed, or zero files shown up, or just a small no. of files shown. Yet 10 mins later, I browsed again & found over 600 files. Next time I browsed I found a few more or less.

Actually, browsing someone can help to get a stalled file continue to downld. That includes those that Need More Sources or those that say Awaiting Sources.
