I have been trying to download new skins for my limewire...i cant download them through limewire it tells me more sources need so i am downloading them through my web browser...after i dont load the skin and place it in the theme subfolder in the .limewire folder it doesnt show up on limewire when i go to apply skins...plz help

On the LimeWire site click the download through LimeWire link. And it will open limewire if it isn't already open. Then it will say needs more sources. Click the skin in the downloads tab and put find sources. It will then say do you want this skin? And click yes. Then it will be installed.

That's nice and all. It does change the skin but I am trying increase the font size so I can SEE limewire (lol). I have modified an existing themes.txt file but don't know where to install it to make it work. I don't have a .limewire folder under docs and settings like the site says. I have XP. Help!

When I d/l skins and install 'em on LW, they show up in my library, because I want them there. That way, I can find them. Sometimes I question having it in my library, but apparently there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with having the skins in my library (since it's part of LW, as far as I'm concerned). My favorite one so far has been a pinkish skin that reminds me of the psychedelic era. Also, when LW first opens up, I get a pic of a guy doing the "devil horns" gesture. My kind of skin, imo.

You might have your preferences folder in the new location of C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Application Data\LimeWire.
This folder's hidden by default, so you'll have to enable viewing of hidden files & folders to see it.

The C:\Documents and Settings\.limewire is the old location for the prefs folder

My skins have always automatically appeared in my library. However, when I dleted my limewire preferences folder to try and solve my bug issues with 4.14 Pro, I lost some of my skins. My beloved pink is gone! When I tried to redownload it, i get a message saying this file laready exists and do I want to override it and I say yes but nothing happens afterwards. I mean I don't find the skin in my list when I go to view skins tab at top. i haven't looked in my libraryto see if the file is still there but even if it is, how am I supposed to use it if it doesn't show up in my list so I can change skins?

Actually I tried that but they wouldn't launch so I had to go and redownload every single one of them but thanks for the post somebody put up about just clicking on the find sources buttons and it'd start downloading because before, I just assumed that the needs sources thing meant I had to wait and get it from a host and that seemed highly unlikely given the crappy downloading lately. I gave up until I read that post. now I have them all back, at least until the next time I upgrade or have to delete my preference folder or or uninstall/reinstall a version of LW.

i cant figure this skin thing out either. i have no idea how to make .limewire folder, what the hell a subfolder is and how i can apply the skin cause its not showing up in my limewire thing. and how do i make preferences?

You don't have to make a preferences folder, it's already there

What version of LW are you using? For older versions (before 4.9.34) the preferences folder was C:\Documents and Settings\your username\.limewire

For later versions (newer than 4.9.34) the preferences folder is here:
C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\LimeWire

The prefs folder in this new location is hidden by default, so you'll have to show hidden files & folders to be able to find it Go to control panel > folder options > view > make sure there's a dot in the circle next to 'show hidden files & folders'. Click Apply > ok to save any changes.
