ermmm...well I have to say whoever built it needs a talking to....192MB of ram is pathetically low for a custom machine...I'm betting the motherboard is old enough that it doesn't support dual channel mode, but that's not a great big issue....the physical amount of ram is....as noted, you need at least 512 and more like 2 sticks of it for a total of 1GB....you will most likely need to just throw away the stuff you have now as it will be basically useless....it will be far easier to find 2 matching sticks of PC2700 and use those...but again, make sure the brand you choose will work with your board....

***edit..well because of the fracking forum scripts the links get edited so they are useless....anywho search around for some PC2700 (DDR333) RAM...a set of 2 matched sticks of 512 cost around 60 bucks...***

the one advantage to using 'dated' technology is that many times its pretty cheap to 'upgrade'...

what you need to verify is the CAS latency your motherboard wants to see....2.5 is pretty common and I bet the stuff I link to above will work just fine and dandy....

Atribune has free tools to check your computer.

198 MB of RAM indicates that you have a 128 MB stick and a 64 MB stick. Which is really dodgy. If you are using memory that low it also indicates an old type of RAM. you really should think about a total system overhaul. :yikes:

Bye

*sigh* Yup guys Its so butt! hmm I was thinking of just getting a new one just a PCU at Walmart are there any cheap ones but with the memory it should have?
Oh yeah I live in NJ so I can't do long travelings no car...
Arigato Kupo!

if you do indeed have a P4B (that is the spec for 533MHz) and upgrade to 1GB of ram (2 sticks of 512) you should be fine...I would think that any HellMart computer would be cr@p...IMHO the ~50 bucks for a gig of ram for your current machine is a very cheap investment and should get you rocking...

if your nick is an indication that you are a big gamer then perhaps a new machine might be warranted, but a machine to current specs is going to cost a pretty penny to truly be a gaming machine....

look here: Newegg.com - Buy Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more! and search for memory>desktop>pc2700

kingston and corsair are both good brands..

if you post the full specs of your machine I'll take the time to figure out if:

1: its worth upgrading the memory
2: if the memory brands I give above will work (for this I'll need the exact name of your motherboard)....

download an app called Everest here: |MG| Free Download - EVEREST Free Edition 2.20

install it..run it and note all the particulars about your system and list them here (as noted, I need the MoBo name)...this is also a good proggy to keep track of temps and such, and can even be used to benchmark certain aspects of your machine...I think that with a little OCing your current machine will keep you happy for at least another year...

Dunno about walmart never been to one ever. Thought it was a supermarket.
My gaming machine cost $1600 and I had to build it myself so if you want a gaming machine be prepared to pay this much if not more.

Final Fantasy is Awesome Kupo....:PEACE:

Kupopo!! yes it is!!

Ohyeah MOm got a whole new PC its HP and not customized but mines is been put away cuz shes thinking on taking to get fix I dunno whens that but its ai'ght cuz Im on it her PC now she let me use it but I still want to get me a laptop. Oh yeah the name brand of my bust up COmp is LG

Peerless August 20th, 2007 04:55 PM

LG eh...well, they are good enough makers of electronics, though I have no idea about computers...

your machine is indeed centered around the P4 2.53GHz 533 FSB Northwood core cpu...that's an excellent version of the P4 using .13 micron technology which was the best of the socket 478's IMHO...they run cooler and can usually be overclocked quite well...though since its not a custom machine I doubt that is an available option in the BIOS of the motherboard....if it is, then I would think that getting a further upgrade of PC3200 ram (DDR400) and pushing the FSB up a bit would make that machine sing and still be well within its ability to cope...but it seems like this whole schmeel is beyond your desires...but I have to say that that HP machine your using is probably crammed full of malware...HP takes payments from companies to load that cr@p on their machines (that's how they sell them so cheaply)..bleh..

Remoc August 20th, 2007 05:23 PM

Peerless, Can you give me your opinion on this Barebones rig and if there is a better way to go other than Barebones. Thanks, Remoc.
