Music Videos

Hi, I am new to the forum, but have been using Limewire for a lot of music etc for me and my kids, it is awesome. I have got some music videos and then have tried to transfer them to DVD. With my CD/DVD writer they will only transfer to CD not DVD. I also have Nero on my system, how can you transfer them to DVD. They quality on CD lessens. Not sure if I am in the right place to ask this question anyway, it may not be anything to do with Limewire but what I do or don't have on my computer, thanks.

Forget about Nero after version 6 (which, btw, will NOT be 'allowed' to be installed on the dreaded Vista).

Grab the 'new' and best program that blows Nero out of the water !

Ashampoo® Burning Studio 7

Crazy name but it is the best available today.

Suggest avoiding the newer version 8 as it costs a bit more right now and unless you're rich enough to adopt me, the only really new stuff is for BlueRay.
If you're playing with BlueRay you can for sure adopt me !
Version 8 is also a bit 'squirrely' for now... Best to let them get through a few updates.

btw... IF, if you find something that is easier to use and results in higher quality, PLEASE let me know !!!

if you have anything before Nero8, transcoding to DVD format should be very easy....

using Nero StartSmart choose Photo and Video>Make Movie>Next>Make DVD/DVD video...then drag the file into the gui and go for it...its pretty damned simple and straightforward...afaik nero 7 has the required codecs to do it...if not, then simply download a codec pac and install it...if you choose Klite codec pac then uncheck the ffdshow option and it wacks Nero and stops audio from being recorded....

Well I tired it (AShampoo) and it didn't work as well as CDs, paused alot, and words then didn't match with video. And it took ages to transfer? suppose it is a video. Nerostartsmart didn't work, it wouldn't accept any of the 20 videos. Any other suggestions. Remember I am not totally computer literate. Thanks.

scratch that advice about the ffdshow stuff....scratches head....I had some weird issues a while back with no sound on video burns and I had noticed the ffdshow icon floating around...uninstall of the klite pac fixed that...viola, sound!....was just noticing some problems with 'type' of sound...thought about it and figured it was because of surround sound being encoded which resulted in words barely able to be heard, but music and effects being quite clear...sooooo, I installed the codec pac again and noticed (to my chagrin) that ffdshow is pretty much integrated into the pac...what I did different though was to use the basic codec pac instead of the full, and simply chose the default install with no player....that seems to work fine with Nero7 and am burning a flick right now...since Nero7 previews the file before you start the transcode/burn process I am quite sure it will turn out as it should...excellent video (since I went for a 2 disc version of the flick) and sound as it should be...I'm pretty sure its a required filter in the codec pac that 'corrects' the sound issues I was noticing...

you mention startsmart didn't work....hmmmm...do you have a codec pac of any type installed?

you also haven't mentioned the format of the files....mpg or .avi....

Hi, pyjamas...

I am sure you are beating a dead horse here because it is almost certain that your video file is corrupted or just simply very badly done in the first place (same thing).

The reaction that you describe re: Ashampoo with this file has absolutely nothing to do with Ashampoo, and the same is almost certainly true for Nero, as well.
It's the file. It's bad.

Use a Torrent client (NOT Limewire) and try to get another version of the same file ! ;)

btw, Peerless... There were two fundamental releases of Nero 7... Especially in regards to the OEM version that so many people are trying to use...

The 'early' Nero 7 looked just like Nero 6 ! There were only a few, more or less useless, bells & whistles added to 6...

The later Nero 7 releases were the start of the garbage chat engine that we now know as Nero 8 which should never be used by anybody !!!

btw2... Start Smart not working is VERY common...
And, InfoTools, when opened (or any attempt to 'erase' an RW disc), will frequently result in a full system crash.

Nero is dead.

ermmm....well all I will freely say is that I use a 0day release updated to v. 7.0.8.2...yeah, it 'feels' like v6 with a much easier to use interface from what I recall of v6....what I'm using is ultra good and easy to use IMHO ;)

Not meaning to further abuse the original thread-starter here, but... !!!

Ever heard of disgruntled employees (they are far more common than 'gruntled' employees, which, frankly, I have never heard of, LOL) ?

Well, Ashampoo didn't exactly pop out of the ground overnight with a room full of spotty-faced 13 year olds who thought they might be able to do a better job than Nero and Roxio and.... well, you got the picture !
These guys and gals are in Germoney... Not a million kms away from Nero !

Ashampoo is IT for now. Nothing beats it for simplicity and resultant quality.

Try an .avi(s) to DVD burn !

Or a DVD .iso or .img to DVD burn !

Nice and easy.

er, One minor problem, for now, at least...
There are no, as far as I can discover, valid '0 days' opportunities out there. None of them work without reverting to 'trial'.
This also indicates how smart the Ashampoo folks really are, eh ?
Bit like Groucho who didn't want to be a member of any club that would accept him as a member...
If it's possible to rip-off the 'vendor', how smart are they ???

Thank you Peerless, your help was received with questions for me, to be asked at a later date, others replies, well I am new to this and lost for words. I am using mpg files or mpeg and I don't even understand what codec pac is? but when I copy the files to CD they don't hesitate at all, but would have thought that putting them onto DVD would be better. It could all just be a waste of time and I may just leave it and stop wasting others. If you think you can help me with it then great, if not then I will just let it go. Thanks though.

Reading all of this very carefully it sounds like you may just have a problem with your CD/DVD drive in your computer. And this does not mean that it is a big problem that will cost you any money.

What you may need to do is a kind of update of your CD/DVD drive. I mean the CD/DVD drive box itself that is inside your computer.

You see, the new types of CDs and DVDs are a bit different from the old kinds and maybe your CD/DVD drive needs an 'update' so that it can read, and especially 'write' to, the new kinds of discs that are probably the only kind you can now buy.

I will not give you any big technical talk about this now, but I know that Peerless knows about this stuff. It is called a FIRMWARE UPGRADE and it is really not so hard to do.

If you can please tell us exactly what model of CD/DVD drive you have in your computer it will help.
If you don't know what it is or how to find out, don't worry because one of us here can hold your hand while you do find out what your CD/DVD drive is. This is a really no big deal.

Once we know the model (company that made it) name and the part number, then it will be really simple to help you to 'update' your CD/DVD drive. This is probably the problem that you have unless all the stuff in your computer is really quite new.

Nothing that I am talking about here needs any screw-drivers or anything like that... It's all done with a simple little program and you don't open the computer case or anything else as terrifying as that!

Maybe I am wrong, but it does seem to me that what I have described may be your real problem.
