Which is better HTTP transfer or P2P transfer?

Hey

I'm developing a program that is has a bit torrent look to it. However, it searches the major search engines and downloads data what the user wants. I was going to post a demo on youtube but I felt it wasn't really ready quite yet.

However, what I gather from p2p program - which i'm not bashing at all because I love downloading music and such. Is that say if the user puts his upload settings to like 10 KBs and maybe maxium torrents per person to like 7, or whatever. It kinda effects the downloading speed as well, if I'm wrong then please correct me. However, downloading through HTTP would be much faster right?

However, is there any other protocols that I could use for my program to download faster than HTTP?

Thanks! Actually, I know this is just P2P not developement\programming. But what do you guys think? Thanks

gnutella (the protocol) is used for searches. Once the sources are discovered, HTTP is used for the file transfers.

So, for better answers from developers, try the Phex forum, the gnutella developerrs the_gdf : The Gnutella Developer Forum (GDF) or see LittleShoot -- P2P 2.0 -- P2P File Sharing in the Browser and of course LimeWire Forums
