To aid helpers in solving download/upload problems, LimeWire and Frostwire users must specify whether they are downloading a torrent file or a file from the Gnutella network. Members need to supply these details >>> System details - help us to help you (click on blue link) Moderators There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving. Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity) Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban. 13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts.  How do i remove the limit of hosts i can download from in Limewire PRO When i download things, i can download only to 14 hosts, which is not enough to reach maximum speed.. so how can i remove this limitation? thx in advance  |

| LW Basic has a limit of 8 hosts per file, LW Pro has 10 per file. As a T3 connection you can obtain up to 14. The limits are there for a good reason. Reasons suggested in this link http://www.gnutellaforums.com/307236-post2.html (click on blue link) You would need to re-engineer the program to remove the limits. But that would be highly selfish. |

| hmm.. re-engineering would just be deleting a code line? but if you would connect to more people at once wouldn't you: -take less time to finish your download, so more people can connect to the file again -remove strain from uploaders(if you would have one host, which uploads to you @30 kbits/s, over lets say.. 30 hosts which all upload at 10 kbits/s, you download faster and put less strain on your hosts. so why is it selfish to connect to more hosts? Correct me if i'm wrong but I think it is the opposite of selfish. |

| Disagree .. as pointed out to you in the above link ... other p2p networks have suffered & even died as a result of people being queued for downloads for hours. People lose interest & look for better alternatives. Easy quick answer you gave, but not as simple as that. For a start, ultrapeers would suffer due to the extra traffic. As you know ultrapeers (UPs) are needed for people to connect to the network. If UP's are tied up with people's downloading habits then others will struggle to even connect to the network. So whilst a few people are downloading hundreds of files at once, others would spend ages if not hours trying to connect to the network. Pleases a small minority but disadvantages the majority. It's within the gnutella network protocol of understanding between clients to keep the limits. LW pro has an exception of having a couple of extra hosts. You do need to be careful if adjusting the gnutella code, else some clients may auto ban you due to the different behaviour. LW is set up to prevent mal-behaviour from other clients including LW itself. Generally happens after repeated behaviour. AFAIK |

| It has been a while since a new reply is posted on this post, but i need to say: with the new version of limewire, the amount of hosts a limewire pro(=paid) has been lowered to 10. this is too low to reach high speeds above 400kb/s, so i would like to know how I can read the limewire code properly and adjust the max number hosts back to 14. (why they made limewire worse is another question but I won't stray away.) |

| I am not sure if you still get 14 hosts or not running as an ultrapeer. I choose not to be an ultrapeer anyway. Remember the extra hosts beyond 10 was only if you were running as an ultrapeer. They have removed the ability to cheat to become an ultrapeer by choosing the T3 setting. Instead now you only become an ultrapeer if (a) the network (& around your area) needs more, (b) if you have ultrapeer enabled, (c) your LW is behaving well enough & has more than enough bandwidth available to become one. There's probably other requirements before you become an ultrapeer. Stief would know more about this. The speeds below are two examples using LW 4.16 which also had the change in speed settings within LW. These snapshots where taken July 31st, Aug. 20th & Sept. 12th (the 15 downloads). I have had over 300 KB/s I know but that was earlier in year (same version LW) but not sure if I took a snapshot or not. I'm sure my bandwidth ability is less than yours but still able to get good speeds 'if' I connect to the right hosts.  Edit: A second recent example: (I normally have reasonable upload speeds, I hope that was only coincidence & not affected by downloads my uploads were so low. Snapshots taken over 45 second period using a computer video recorder.)  Funny thing is, my line was tested at 4-5 MBps almost 2 years ago. I guess improvements since then have lifted the abilities. I was told my overall speed plan is around 24 MBps though I would be unlikely to ever get up that high. I doubt this particular router would cope with much faster than the speeds shown here either. | if the upload connection is fast enough, Pro 4.18.8 (leaf or UP) can download from 14 hosts. I just checked, and grabbed the following screenie while running as a leaf on a 5/1 mbps cable connection. |
