wireless, hardwired?

The system...OS X v10.3.2, G4 17", latest version of Limewire. Cable Modem. Netgear WGR 614 router.

Why is it that when I'm hardwired to the router, I have no issues connecting. If I activate Airport, and try and connect, Limewire tells me there are issues with firewalls, or I do not have a connection. At the same time, the router "locks up" and requires unplugging to reset?

The curious thing in all this...I trashed Limewire the otherday, downloaded again, and had no problems connecting wirelessly, until I quit Limewire.
