This is the NapShare forum
Legality depends a lot on where you're living. If downloading/sharing copyrighted material is illegal in your country then you have to choose whether or not to do it!! afaik, risk of prosecution depends also on how many files you're going to be sharing. There are hundreds of threads about this, use the search & you'll probably find a few good ones (might have to weed out a lot of ranting though!!).
LW itself is legal, lots of people use it to share their own photos, videos etc & there's a lot of creative commons stuff that's legal to share.
Maybe you need to check out your country's laws regarding file sharing

afaik, it's illegal in the USA but search the forum... it's been discussed to death & you'll find heaps of threads & opinions.

There was a local (federal) law passed recently that made iPod use "officially" legal here, birdy, but in the USA it might be different. (Sorry if my description is vague ... search & you'll find the exact regulations. As for USA I'm not sure.)

As far as I can tell that applies to "legitimately purchased materials" rather that what someone might download via p2p

Well tell me when someone gets busted in australia for playing their unpurchased music on their iPod. As I recall it does give permission to extract your own cd's to your own iPod ...

Can't find exact details (quickly without trying) but here's some fun details (older article!!!): http://www.pwclegal.com.au/legal/pwc...25711B008324A8

I wasn't saying that we shouldn't put music on our iPods, or that anyone's going to get busted for it in Oz I was just giving my perception of the article! This is the one I found

hmmm the good ol' license agreements. They normally appear with a certain type of file (.wma) which is to do with Windows Media Player. I would suggest downloading .mp3 or .m4a files, with .mp3 you will need Windows Media Player 10, or downloaded codec for it if you have 9 or 10 (beta version only). Sorry but because of Microsoft's lack of intelligence, they haven't stumbled on .m4a! In my own personal opinion I wouldn't use WMP instead use a third party application called Winamp, you don't need the full version, just the free standard version will do. PS It's quite easy to use!!

And yes there are laws in place in Australia, however they are very confusing. So in my own personal words - Download & distribute until you are caught, if someone asks tell em you paid for one of those "Rip It" cards!!
