host catcher?

I have a dialup connection. Most of the hosts that NapShare tries for me end up timing out. It tries a bunch, obtains some connections and then tries 255.255.255.255 repeatidly. I guess this means it is at the end of its list. My ISP usually hangs up on me at this point (due to no activity) - once all the old connections die and it is unable to find any new ones. Anyone else with this problem?

I made V1.0 behave better with dial up access. If you lose your connection it will wait till your ppp reconnects and obtains the new IP address given. Works great with the new automation so you can use a dial up account 24/7. Just set Kppp to redial on disconnect, your ISP will love you.
When you have no more IP's in the host cache NapShare will then start trying static "public" host caches. You see them as normal IP addresses when it tries, and it disconnects quickly, but leaves you with 10 or more good IPs to try to connect to. It will keep retrying the static caches every so many seconds.
If you are behind a firewall it may have problems, depending on how you set up the firewall. Mostly if you can web browse with netscape, NapShare should work.
I have done a lot of testing here, both network and dial up + light firewalls and haven't seen this problem. Both Mandrake and Red Hat.
Can you tell me more about your setup? What distro of Linux? Firewall set up etc..
