Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning.

10. Posts should have descriptive subjects. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit.

13. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Default Support for more networks

Gnutella is slowly going downhill. New networks such as The Ares Network, MP2P, and G2 are great but MP2P only works without a firewall and G2 has in my opinion bad software (i hate Shareaze). Maybe its just me but i think that limewire should connect to multiple networks like Morpheus does but no bad networks like Fast Track or slower networks like eDonkey. I think that limewire shouldnt even connect to Gnutella but only G2 and Ares or possibly only G2.

by downhill i meant quality and speed of download. Sure they are fast but many are fake and not as fast as Ares or MP2P. So far ares and Mp2p have almost NO FAKE FILES. the gnutella network will never be as good as G2 Mp2p or Ares but we could make the limewire client better by adding support for other networks. and now Shareaze doesnt even connect to the gnutelle network by default. By default it connects to edonkey and G2 you have to tell it to connect to gnutella...

Since when is Morpheus connecting to more than one network? Morpheus isn´t connecting to Fasttrack anymore, only Gnutella or did I miss anything?

You know that the developer of Shareaza has written the protocol for G2? So how could he write a good protocol and a bad client for it, this doesn´t make sense?

btw fake files has nothing to do with a network, its depending on the user, many of them are switching between more than one network - so you will find in all networks fake files!

Its connect to G2 by default, of course its the "home" network, but you have to tell that it should connect to eDonkey.

He? Every client is working through a firewall, check your settings!

Did you make a statistic and count the fake files or what? EVERY network has fake files... sometimes more sometimes less...

Salut Morgwen, Morpheus 4 has multi network support: Gnutella and gnutella 2 (GnuDNA) overnet and fasttrack (with a mldonkey plugin) and their own new network Neonet. http://zeropaid.com/news/articles/auto/01192004a.php Please everybody, don't use Morpheus, it really harms networks (no fastrack uploading) and I had today to take down my Gwebcache. Morpheus 4 with gnuDNA 1.0.1.7 made thousands of request by hour (more than everyother server combined)!!! I really hope that lousy compagny aka Streamcast dies. And this is not the first time it litterally kills gwebcaches http://www.c0re.net/gnuforum/viewtopic.php?t=3725 http://www.c0re.net/gnuforum/viewtopic.php?t=3679 and other...

Ciao

Morpheus is connecting to Fasttrack.

First Sherman (Kazaa) banned them and now they are back... P2P can be funny.

But Morpheus is bullshit, it could connect to ALL existing networks and I wouldn´t touch it...

Actually the Donkey network is the best, I download larger files like videos... and the Donkey is UNBEATABLE in this point.

I also heard some good things about Ares, I am going to test is soon.

Yes overnet and emule are kings of the hill for big files, no question about that. Ares is a very fast little network, the only drawback is that its network topology (clusters of 10 000 clients) make it difficult to find things that aren't very popular. This program based on gift is also very good. It connects to Gnet, fasttrack (with upload) and openfasttrack. http://kceasy.sourceforge.net/ It is poisoned for windows users. Recommended.

There are no clusters in ares anymore. Read on there forums. There forums are at softgap.com The network is growing very fast since the addition of warez to there network. In the last two weeks ive seen an icrease in population from an average of about 20,000 users to now 79,000 users as of 11:30 1-26-04. you can get warez p2p client at warez.com incase you didnt know.

Maybe I'm paranoid but...

The Warez p2p client did some ... weird things to my computer. Screwed it up. After I installed it, I just had all these holes in my computer and the next thing I knew I had to reformat ;-PP

Morpheous is anohter service I don't trust.

I never trusted limewire when it was closed source.

I don't really trust bearshare...(that bear is freaky)

Overnet negatively effects my computer the most (slows it down), but it's never destroyed my system. (even if it keeps giving me that trojan virus warning that they SWEAR is fake) =p=p

WinMX has a small network, but it's the most trustworthy program, IMO.

I'd like to try Ares, I heard about that the other day.

But I'm not sure...
What beats Limewire? Opensource, Multi-platform, Large network.
It's great!
Even if it is written in Java ;-P

More networks on LW would be great, but my experience with all-in-one software hasn't been all that great. While I believe in sticking with one thing and doing it right, I think in this case the one thing that oughtta be stuck to is sharing, rather than the means of the sharing. I think the opensource-ness of LW's the best, and hope someone who knows how gets more networks online.

None of the developers nor of the active open-source contributors intends to add support for other networks.

And, the vast majority of users do not have adequate bandwidth to cope with their chosen Upload, Download and Queue Slots...
On ONE network.

Adding other 'networks' is a very counterproductive step for practically all users.

limewire rocks. its better then everything out there. Its very fast and most of the files on the network are legit. What network can compete? Kazaa? Give me a break. speed? once about a time ago, but now its beyond slow. Dependability? Oh hell no. fasttrack is littered with garbage, so much garbage that it forced me to move to another network.

Default multiple network support

Shareaza claims to support multiple networks, however in its most recent guise connection to gnutella has been less than satisfactory. In my experience at best I have been connected to only one G1 ultrapeer at a time for only short periods making the network unusable. Gnutella 2 may have the technological edge but just doesn't have the volume of content, edonkey is great if you have dsl/cable but for those of us with dial-up modems the queues are just to long. Having been away from Limewire for some time I'm glad to be back downloading lots of those luurvley gnutella files.
