These volunteers keep the board organized and moving. Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity) Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. | Metadata has been implemented in-house. I imagine it will be a few weeks before we release it into the wild, though, as we've been working on tweaking the way it fits in the protocol. Swarmed downloads are not the highest priority item at the moment, but we'll probably do that at some point. Can't give an estimate now. BTW, LimeWire has been doing a fair amount of research on a novel query routing scheme. This will hopefully be available for beta testing in a few weeks. It's cool... -Christopher Rohrs LimeWire |

| It's a way to avoid broadcasting queries, hence reducing Gnutella's bandwidth requirements tenfold. You can read a somewhat out-of-date version of our scheme at http://www.limewire.com/developer/query_routing/. Be warned that the paper is aimed at other developers and is very technical. The query routing scheme is implemented in-house, but we don't know how it will work on a larger scale. | Swarmed downloading Its unfortunate that "swarmed downloading" is not a priority. I am not a programer, but from what I understand it should not be very difficult to add (maybe Im wrong). This is the one killer feature missing from all of the gnutella clients (besides meta data). That feature alone would cause me, and many others, to switch to any client that offers it. |

 Am I wrong? Is swarmed downloading a difficult feature to implement or just not a priority? I know your focus is more on what you envision as the backbone of the network structure but I think that swarmed downloading would have a dramatically positive effect on the amount of network traffic and completed downloads. It, with meta data and md5 or crc are probably the most important features that could be added. Unfortunatly Vinnie is adding chat (though the reflector functionality is great). I like the auto reseach feature in Phex (though the developers dont  ). It would be nice with the swarmed downloading. |

| we do not need 'swarmed downloads', do you understand the word swarmed? Gnutella developers are researching ways to avoid/reduce broadcast traffic (which is the number one cause of the network being so slow at the moment). Broadcast traffic takes up ~50% of your bandwidth which means that other half is divided up for downloading and uploading. Xolox or whatever is hurting the gnutella network, Vinnie even said so himself. http://www.bearshare.net/forum/showt...?threadid=4872 it produces "machine generated queries: which wastes bandwidth b/c those queries are not efficent in matching enough files other hosts have. Xolox is bad for the network. Load up LimeWire and look in the Monitor window and look how many Band - Song 01.mp3 type of queries you get. How many people are going to have that file in that exact filename. They may of named it a little different so that query just wasted bandwidth. It would me efficent to such just for that song name or band name and filter the results with a set of rules. |

| YES, WE DO NEED SWARMED DOWNLOADS!!! We DO need swarmed downloads. Just with better implementation. If the GDF could get its act together an implement file hashing we could really get things moving. They need to just make a move and get it done! Same goes for meta data. Limewire should also introduce some type of reflector technology (defender). This would help lower badwith as well. |
