Program Downloading Capabitlity

I know some people will disagree with me on this, but I think the feature to download and share Programs on Limewire should be removed due to the fact that they're are just way too many people masquerading viruses as programs putting user at risk. Hell I'm trying to get rid of a worm right now that I got from a download off Limewire, so please take this seriously. THANKS :D

The ability to share Programs is not a default setting with LW 5. You need to change your settings to enable this. So LW's developers have been working on this. However if you search for such that's a different story. Should always scan all downloads with your security softwares before opening them.

Torrents is usually a better source for 'some' things. ;)

LOL I would

It's funny you should mention torrents...I would, but my ISP throttles my access and prevents me from using torrents unfortunately. :mad2:

HCE

I would like to ask this, when you got this "worm", were you being careless by not doing an AV scan or did it get pass your defences?

I ask simply because it has been well known for some time (years) the the gnutella network is littered with planted malware (viruses, worms, etc.) and that it must always be used with caution.

virus

I did scan the file for viruses and it didn't show any...(using AVG Paid) but when I initialized the program it unleashed the virus and made it so AVG nor any other Anti Virus program would work at all. So I had to format my hard drive and reinstall Windows this morning.

lesson learned eh?

while you might think I'm being flippant, I've been there, done that, worn that shirt more than a couple of times...it simply comes with the 'territory' as it were...

Unfortunately HCE

The type of virus you picked up disables your AV, re-writes parts of your registry so that you cannot log onto any secure (https://) site to get any kind of help.

Like Peerless, I have also been there and the lesson learned here is to stay away from compressed, .exe and any other program files.

Sorry that this has been an unpleasant experience for you.
