These volunteers keep the board organized and moving. Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity) Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. 2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. 3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum. 4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks. 5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. 6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. 10. Posts should have descriptive subjects. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit. 13. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. | I downloaded Limewire for the first time about 30 minutes ago. When I do an Audio search all I see is MP3 files. Does the Audio search also look for OGG files ? Are there plans to add an OGG player ? ......... Vince |
| |||
| LimeWire will be displaying ogg files, too, when it encounters any. Very few people are willing to switch from mp3 to ogg so you won't find many ogg files. An ogg player probably won't be added in the near future.

| Given that: a) Java code for playing OGG is freely available. b) OGG format is royalty free. c) Real Player and broadcasting companies like the BBC will be doing their best to bring OGG into the mainstream Is Krieger88 right when he/she says "An ogg player probably won't be added in the near future" ? ............ if there were sufficient call for an ogg player my bet is evelopers would respond to demand - but there just arn't that many ogg files visable during searches (almost none in fact) - which raises another interesting point everyone knows the mp3 format is not actually the best of the available formats in terms of audio quality but for a bunch of reasons its the mp3 format that consumers have embraced (similar to the way VHS was embraced over the higher quality BETA video format) - but - given that other formats like a2b and liquid audio etc are/were so often used by mainstream download sites its surprising how few of those files/formats are swilling around the gnutella network - maybe its just that mp3 ripping, sharing and playing is so easy and widespread that the mp3 'market share' forces everthing else to the fringe of the fringe |

Some of their current projects include bandwidth saving udp-replies, queueing support, gwebcache support... The mediaplayer has just been updated, but they only switched to a newer version of their mp3 library.

| I would dearly like to see LimeWire's search gain enough smarts to block out all but the required file type. i.e. select file type=ogg and get only ogg files come back. If the player could understand ogg as well that would be icing on the cake. I am well aware that there is not much ogg out there but if respected applications like LimeWire gave it the support it deserves, less people would shun it or mistake it for a nasty disease. |

| I'll second that request, to be able to add "File Type" to the search request (under more search options). I was wondering whether LimeWire was searching for just MP3 files while performing an audio search. Actually, it'd be nice to know exactly what file types LW will return when searching, or to specify the default file types for the various default searches. Keep up the great work! |

| Ahhh ... no wonder I'm not experiencing such joys. I tried installing 3.9.1Pb and was told that the installation can't proceed because the installer can't find the LimeWire.msi file to un-install my current (3.8.6P) version of LW. See my post on that subject. It's nice that the LW folks are finally including a quasi-changelog with each new version; it'd be better yet if an historic changelog could be included with each release (e.g., most programs would have a history.txt or changelog.txt file included with the distro). |
