These volunteers keep the board organized and moving. Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity) Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. 2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. 3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum. 4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks. 5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. 6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. 10. Posts should have descriptive subjects. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit. 13. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community. |

I hate adding to the already long pile of messages about connection problems, I've tried numerous things, but just can't seem to make a connection with any P2P software... I am using OS X 10.3.x and Limewire 4.0.4 I am on a school network which uses a secure HTTP proxy I am using NTLM Authorization Proxy Server v.0.9.8 in order to get around some of the authentication problems that I had with other internet applications. With this program running, I just enter 127.0.0.1:8080 as the proxy server in just about any application and it will connect to the internet, however, this is not so with Limewire... I did run the purger.jar file to purge the limewire settings, but this made no difference. I tried a port scan on the school's proxy server, but don't see the default limewire port (6346) as being open. Regardless, I did try with a few random ports but I have the same symptoms. I am manually connecting limewire and not letting it auto-connect on startup, as suggested... I do have a gad of files in the shared folder, and Limewire does report them as being there. I decided to enter my ISP's Proxy information into Limewire, and what I get is a big list of servers, it tells me that it's connecting, and then the time ticks up forever without there actually being a connection made... I must say that my experience with Limewire has been only happy ones up till now. It did work just fine for me at home and at a few other places... I think that this is a solid product... I blame my current connection problems on a configuration problem, either in the preferences of the LAN here... But, if someone can get this thing working with me, I would be really really impressed and happy... But I am understandign that the LAN here might be a barrier.

I disabled the NTLM Authentication proxy on my mac, and absolutely nothing works. Without the NTLM Authentication, I am unable to connect to the internet. LimeWire works even worse than before with this disabled, it won't even generate a list of available servers. At least with the NTLM authentication turned on it generates a list of servers, it just can't connect to any of them.

Oh ya... Limewire knows about the proxy... It has the same proxy information as MSN Messenger and my web browser... It just doesn't work nearly as well as they do... I konw that the proxy is being recognized because at least a server list is generated. This list is not generated when the proxy information is missing or non existent. I do get a list, and it says that it's trying to connect to these servers, but the time just goes on forever... The attached picture shows this...

The LAN at this building was designed by a volunteer who didn't really know what he was doing. The LAN is maintained by a volunteer elderly man who doesn't exactly know how it works. Basically the system is self sustaining somehow, if a problem occures, a faculty member simply resets the equipment and all is made well... The school does not allow students to have any access to the equipment or controls. I asked about P2P sharing, and they basically had not position.... They basically told me that if it works, good for me, if it doesn't, too bad for me. They don't care if I use such applicaitons or not, however they will not make adjustments to the network settings because "it's working, and we're afraid that if we make any adjustments, it will cease to function as well as it does now"... I tried to convince them to open ports 109, 110, 25, 143, 993 and 995 so that students could use mail readers, but that request was denied. So we can only check e-mail if there is a web based interface... So, I'm not afraid of school policy, but I would be pleased if I could get this to work at all... I'm not aware of any other students in the building who have ever gotten P2P to work for them, so maybe it's impossible. I just happen to be more stubborn than most before I give up.
